the 1" tool is everything I needed, it has a nice flat edge, but the 3/4" tool is a no go. The edge of the tool is rounded and just chatters along the wood when you try to turn it, which makes it basically useless!

These are a good introduction to skews. They are very inexpensive for what you get. I have given them to two different new turners and have been very pleased with them. I would say if you are new to the skew have an experienced turner instruct you on their use. You will be amazed at what you can do with a skew in woodturning.

Great tool , will need to be sharpened. If you are just getting started in turning these tools will get you started. As well as comfortable sharpening which is a art in itself. You won't have to worry about screwing up your 100 dollar plus ,gouge while you get the hang of it, and figure out if you want to keep on with this hobby. I still use these tools all the time.

regardless if you are new to wood turning or a pro at it you cannot deny this is a great deal. The quality of these tools made from high strength steel hold up well to use and sharpen up nicely.

Hello!I am only writing a little on these because that's all they need. The tools don't come sharpened. They are also mid length-maybe 10-12 inch handles with 8-10 inch steel. The bigger chisel hurts something fierce if it catches your finger due to the shape of the stock. It's very flat and very nasty. The little one is much kinder to the hands. Both tools are great starter tools and very useful to practice sharpening. They do burn VERY easily, so it's important to be gentle. I'm knocking a star off because the larger one is a little loose in the grip and I've only been using it for a few weeks.

I was surprised at the quality at the low price I paid. Only drawback is maybe the handle collar which is held down by small indentations. I think after a while this may loosen, yet not come off because it is between the steel and hardwood handle which is very fine stock. Nice long handles will be great for safety and support while turning.

I certainly understood that the two skew chisels would most likely need to be honed before using them, but what I did not expect was that one would have to be completely re-ground before I would be able to use it. The one inch chisel had a different angle ground on each side. The cutting edge was not at the center of the skew. Overall the Skew was unusable until it was reground calling into question the quality control at the Hurricane plant. The quality of the 1" skew chisel was very poor. The 1/2 inch oval skew, on the other hand, was okay and simply needed to be honed to put an edge on the tool. The bevels and angles were fine on this tool. All things considered I would probably consider a different brand on future purchases. Some times a bargain isn't a bargain at all.
