Bought this as a replacement for my central machinery lathe banjo. Was turning a spindle and this thing snapped about 5 minutes in to the turning. Not sure if it was a defect or just poorly made. I do not recommend this product.

The product is exactly as shown. I knew I would need to modify it to fit my lathe, and the adaptations went fine. I bought it because I could not find an exact fit for my lathe.

I purchased 2 of these after recently picking up a used General Model 260 wood lathe with bed extension for the sole purpose of turning porch posts and other longer spindles. The General has a 12” swing over bed, but the height of the banjo (tool rest holder) base that came with that lathe takes away a good 2” of that swing, a not uncommon problem with banjos that use a cam and lever system to lock down on the ways. I had found an old 24” double post tool rest somewhere and purchased these units to hold it; they are about as low profile as you can find and fit the lathe bed just fine once I embedded the tightening nuts in homemade wood knobs. My only complaint is that tool rest holder was apparently bored at exactly 25mm, which is a standard diameter for tool rest shafts. None of the tool rests I own would fit in these holders; not possessing the ability to rebore them bigger I had to file away for quite some time to get the tool rest posts to slide down in. I think any machinist would tell you the holders should have been bored a couple of thousandths or so larger. Other than that minor inconvenience (hence the missing star) however, these items solved a big problem for a reasonable price.

Bought this item as an exact replacement for original existing unit, and during installation it broke. Amazon sent a replacement due to my return of the broken unit.Just installed new unit and was using it on my lathe when it broke in almost the exact same spot (install occurred now due to winter weather, bought in November 2023).Looking at original existing unit, pictures taken of 1st replacement, and visual of 2nd replacement - they all broke in almost exactly the same spot. Probable manufacturing flaw using poor materials.I will now have to see about welding/brazing this back together. Possible get one made out of steel block. Very disappointed regarding this item.Bottom or left is original equipment, Top or right is 2nd replacement part.DO NOT PURCHASE THIS ITEM.
