This Baofeng UV-28- Plus handheld transceiver is a hefty and comparatively heavy radio. Unlike the other Baofeng radios I own, I notice it on my belt. However, it is a very powerful radio with a 10 watt transmitter that previously was only found in mobile radios. At 2200 mAh capacity the battery is nonetheless able to power this radio for long periods of time, and the radio is supplied with two of them.I like the quality of how the radio is solidly built, and how it feels in my hand. I also like the color screen and fonts that display all the necessary information. I did find that when I am in a sunny location I need to shield the screen because I can’t read it in direct sun.Baofeng has improved the programming capability of this UV-28 -Plus by providing an app that works on my Android smartphone and connects to the radio via Bluetooth. This is in addition to the usual methods of using computer software with a cable connection, or just using the keys on the radio itself. That makes programming the possible 1,000 channels much easier, and finally they have provided for the creation of zones of channels instead of just a long list of channels. The zones really make this radio much easier to use.I was pleased to find accessories included that often must be purchased separately: a speaker/microphone and a surveillance style earpiece/microphone. Both have a built-in PTT switch. With 3 transmit bands, 3 power levels, and 10 watt capability, plus extra receive bands, this hand held radio contains more performance and technical sophistication than you pay for. Its GPS receive and sharing of location information makes it especially great for the outdoor enthusiast while also providing an important safety factor. There is everything to like about this radio!

I got this, and I also got the cable recommended by another reviewer here. I used that cable and CHIRP to program some local frequencies into the radio. I haven't tried the app yet. So far I have only been listening but it was easy enough to get going even for a total noob like me. The good news is that there is a tremendous amount of information out there on the Baofeng radios. There are tons of Youtube videos that demonstrate every feature of the radio, which I find an easier way to pick things up compared to reading the manual. (The included paper manual has microscopic type, by the way)Physically the unit feels solidly built. Good fit and finish. I left the radio one for a couple days whenever I was at my PC, just listening to local police frequencies. The battery lasted a few days, at a few hours per day. That was shorter battery life than I expected, considering I wasn't transmitting.Personally I don't foresee much use for the GPS feature. I might have been better suited with a cheaper model, but really, when you consider what you are getting for the price I think the whole Baofeng lineup are excellent values.

Screen was not straight, angled just enough to be really annoying, you could tell it wasn’t mounted inside the radio correctly, seemed and felt like it could fall off into the radio and rattle around I returned it as the screen being extremely crooked bothered my OCD

The Baofeng UV-28 Plus is a solid portable radio that brings some handy new features. If you already have a programming cable from an older Baofeng 5R, it'll work with this one, and you can grab the free software from their website. The Bluetooth feature is a nice addition, letting you connect to your smartphone and adjust settings or program channels right from an app. While the software might feel a bit clunky, it does the job on both Android and iPhone. This radio gets good feedback from other users, and I found its sound quality to be just as good as my more expensive radios. It's a capable little unit with features like GPS, which is pretty cool. Being able to program it wirelessly with a tablet without needing extra cables or adapters is a welcome improvement, making it very easy and convenient. The GPS is a nice touch, though it's probably best to turn it off when you're not using it to save battery, just like the Bluetooth. The speaker's sound quality is good, and having 999 channels, FM radio, and other functions makes this a versatile tool. I'd definitely recommend it.

This updated UV-28 PLUS 10w is a pretty nice upgrade from the BF-F8HP (UV-5R) styles that I currently have. It is a little larger in size in all dimensions and feels pretty lightweight. The speaker is pretty crisp and clear and the included whip seems to be working fine to reach repeaters nearby. The GPS is a bit of a niche thing, but I can see how it would come in handy. This radio gave me some trouble in CHIRP, until I saw that others state that it has to be read under UV-17R Pro GPS. It has had excellent performance so far, and the USB-C rechargeable battery has been amazing in its battery life so far. I haven't had a chance to try the bluetooth programming option yet, because I do not have an android device to program, NO iOS app is available to my knowledge. For those that don't know, this radio does NOT need a license to **LISTEN**, but be aware - if you live in the US you'll need your FCC license to **TRANSMIT**. While programming in CHIRP, you can lock out the transmission function and listen in, but that essentially makes this a pricey scanner.NEGATIVE: I have no clue why they bother to list the Air Band in these radios - DO NOT GET THIS FOR LISTENING TO AIR TRAFFIC. This is a FM transceiver radio, Air Band communications happen on AM. Yes, the frequencies are the same, but this radio does not demodulate AM communications correctly. I live right next to a major airport with 24/7 ATIS, and I have to be standing on-airport grounds to even get a crappy received signal. Shame on you Baofeng, kind of a turd move claiming it would listen in on Air Band correctly.
