I really liked the Betta pool skimmer but it is expensive and not durable. So far I've owned two that did not manage to last more than a year -- so I thought I might as well give this less expensive contender a chance -- it also offers USB-C charging like the more expensive Betta.I was surprised to see more than a few resemblances to the Betta: the top opening and removable basket (great design) which is extremely similar with slight differences in dimensions, the window in the middle of the solar panel that lets you see how full the filter is...There are some improvements like an input vane, and a phone bluetooth remote app instead of a dedicated remote. The QR code for downloading the app that is printed in the manual directs you to a web page that has a dead link; I had to look on the App Store for the "Joy Life" app (the app you want is "Joy Life - Enjoy your life" and it's designed to communicate with... robot vacuums). Given the mostly Chinese lettering on the main page, I was expecting the worst, but to my surprise the app was very simple to use, connected instantly to the robot and controls it perfectly. It also displays the battery level. Can't speak for the durability yet, but build quality appears solid and performance is excellent. I'm glad I purchased this product.

Last September my wife and I purchased a new-to-us home which came with a “poverty pool.” What’s a poverty pool you ask? It’s an above ground pool for those of us not rich enough for an inground pool! Anyway, the previous owners left an inexpensive pool cover which tore open in the winter and let 5 acres worth of tree trash in it. To that, I did the best I could to clean it but man did I need help. So I decided to purchase this robot that I named “Top Cover.” I wasn’t sure if it would work, but overall it does. Like anything else, there are pros and cons to every product. The first big pro is the app. Why don’t more things have an app? I mean I even have apps for some of my apps for heaven’s sake it's a big plus this thing comes with an app. It’s a very basic app with an easy to use interface. The fact you can personalize and rename your robot is super cool. You can also update the software from the app which is a plus. The app connects to the robot via Bluetooth so as every IT guy knows, everything is better with Bluetooth! The app also allows you to take over and drive the bot around the pool. The range is very good as I can control it from the other side of my 25’ poverty pool. The app will also give you the battery status so you can decide if it can stay out and charged by the sun or it needs to get plugged in to charge. The provided USB C cable makes this an easy to support bot. Again…pretty handy feature. The bot has a huge hopper with a fine mesh filter to catch little and big things floating in the water. The bot is fairly light so someone who is not super strong or has mobility issues should be able to manage the robot with little issue. One downside though is removing the bot from the water can be difficult to some as it gains a lot of weight with the water inside the bot until it fully drains. Another downer is the charging time. It takes 3 hours to charge the bot for initial use or if there isn’t enough sun to charge or charge up the battery. The bot doesn’t come with a “wall nugget” so you’ll have to provide your own. The one really disappointing thing for me is the power of the motor. Because the bot is so light, it gets blown around easily by the wind or when it gets to the discharge nozzle on the wall of the pool, the bot goes for a ride to the middle of the pool and tends to miss a whole section of the pool. This gets worse when you’re dumping a bunch of water in the backflush and rinse processes which lower the water level. I wish this bot had a little more horsepower or I guess chihuahua-power as it's such a small device, that it could paddle its way past that rush of water. The bot is also a slow putter bot so more speed would make it more fun to control in the pool. I know there is a trade off as a faster bot means more battery draw but if the biggest selling point is a solar powered bot, this should not be an issue in my unscientific mind.Overall not a bad bot. The price point is pretty accurate for what you receive. I’ve only had it about a week so I’ll come back and update this post if my experience improves or decreases the rating.
