Thrustmaster USB Flightstick - The only entry-level joystick with a point of view button!

Amazon.com

Sculpted to comfortably conform to the natural grip of the hand and featuring three action buttons, one trigger and a throttle, the Thrustmaster USB Joystick is an attractive and highly functional yet comparatively inexpensive control device for PC gaming. Whether you're flying a midnight bombing run over a global hot spot, blazing your way through the dark recesses of outer space or battling bumper to bumper at Indianapolis, the Thrustmaster USB Joystick has you covered, for less than half the price of an average computer game.

Though priced on par with typical entry-level sticks, Thrustmaster's most affordable joystick features a surprising number of desirable amenities. Pilots in particular will enjoy the unit's thumb-triggered 8-way toggle switch "hat", ideal for accessing alternate viewpoints in and around an aircraft. Flyers and drivers alike will love the ergonomic molded grip, convenient palm rest, and multiple button/trigger configuration. The device does not offer tactile force feedback sensations or wireless operation, though it does sport a base-mounted throttle for precise analog control of aircraft speed.

The Thrustmaster USB Joystick is compatible with all Windows-based games and all four of the most recent versions of the Windows operating system (Windows 98, ME, 2000, and XP). Thrustmaster backs the unit with a two-year warranty.

Perfect for my application. I’m not a gamer, but I like my flight simulator. I wanted a simple usb joystick with a few buttons but not a full flight yoke. This fit the bill. Plugged in and worked with no additional configuration or calibration required.

Bought this to occasionally play Quake on my Linux workstation. The joystick was plug and play even on Linux. Works perfectly. Good basic design. Glad I got it. Good value at this price point.

Build quality isn't terrible, but it's certainly not great.Weight is far too light for how stiff the stick it, so jumps off the table for too much.Compatibility with games is not amazing, and there's basically no documentation to help troubleshoot. As it predates Thrustmaster's modern software interfaces, there's no way to configure it or try and flash newer, less borked firmware. It's junk, simple as.

Plugged it in and it worked just fine. The only way to play a flight sim style game. Also works for the old Mechwarrior series of mech sims.

I have never returned an Amazon purchase, but at first I was ready to so with this joystick. I bought it specifically to play War Thunder (Aviation). I had already been playing just using the mouse. I was disappointed to find I did so much worse with the joystick. But then I realized that I needed to calibrate the joystick, which took some trial and error, and watching Youtube. Probably invested about 30 hours into this set up, but I think that would have been the case with any joystick.I think there is also a lot of set up that is going to be specific to the individual. Especially how you set up your buttons. At this point I am flying better, but not yet as good as I did with the mouse, but it's not a fair comparison, because the mouse is set for very simplified flight. While it might be better for scoring points, I find it so much more interesting to experience more realistic flying.I have mine set up so that the throttle lever (#2) is my yaw axis, the stick for roll/pitch, and I put the throttle on buttons #4 and #3.I use my mouse for external view. Which I don't use much, because I'm still struggling with the flying. I'm a little hard on the stick sometimes during a dogfight, and I imagine it won't last more than a few years. By that time I expect my skills will warrant an upgrade to a joystick for twice the money. For now, I'm happy with this one.

Bought this joystick specifically for playing Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. It wasn't my first choice by any means but at the time of writing this every other joystick, yoke, throttle control has been sold out or is selling for vastly inflated prices due to such low stock. This joystick was pretty much what was left and also one of the cheapest (I bought for £30) so wasn't expecting much to be honest but thought it "might" be better than a keyboard and mouse at least.Anyway, pleasantly surprised. Took me a while to get it to work with MSFS but this is more down to MSFS I would say. Firstly, it doesn't recognise this joystick specifically and just shows up as "USB Game Controller" however you can still map functions to the joystick. Next issue was I had mapped Ailerons & Elevator left, right, up, down to the joystick (seemed sensible to do it this way) and no matter how sensitive I was with the joystick my plane would not react and then suddenly react violently and ultimately crash within seconds. Playing about with the sensitivity settings made no difference. Finally figured out I need to map to the Ailerons Axis and Elevator Axis instead! This appears to have caught out quite a few people in the MSFS community and I wonder how many joysticks have been returned because of this. Once I got past this problem then the joystick works like a dream. You can also further adjust the sensitivity within the software itself.I have also been able to map the drone camera functions, pause key and brakes to the buttons as well as throttle to slider control to keep keyboard input to a minimum. Finally, like the look, feel and size of the joystick. It's all black except for middle button (a touch of yellow) so matches my black keyboard, mouse, monitors. It doesn't come with any suction pads or means of fixing it to the table so I'm not sure how well this would work with more arcade like games. In the simulator I am only applying gentle movements to the stick.I've read reviews of longevity issues so will update if I encounter these. At the moment very pleased with the purchase. PS I appreciate this review is more how this joystick works with MSFS rather than the joystick itself but giving the popularity of the game right now I'm guessing I'm not the only one who considered buying the joystick for this reason

This is my first joystick. The only expectations that I had from my joystick was that I could provide continuous inputs instead of digital inputs (keyboard). The box has the joystick and the manual, and nothing else (Didn't expect any extras at the price point).FS2020 detected the joystick, but did not assign any controls to it. I did not do much digging to find out why, but instead mapped the controls manually. The pitch and roll axis are the joystick y and x axes respectively. I didn't need yaw, and there isn't another axis on this joystick (unless you replace the PoV buttons), so I ignored this. Mapped the throttle axis to the thumb throttle (this is possibly the single most important contributor to better speed control and landings), and landing gear toggle, flaps, parking brakes to other buttons apart from cockpit strafe left, right,up and down to the PoV buttons.I'm running this on default sensitivity, and right off the bat, my landings became butter smooth. In terms of ease of use and ergonomics, the joystick is brilliant and feels more expensive than it actually is. The shape and handrest are perfect for me. That might not be the case if you are left handed. The cable is sufficiently long. The one issue that I had with FS2020 is the lack of more buttons on the joystick for other common functions, and I had to occasionally switch back to my keyboard. Although, to be honest, FS2020 has way too many control mappings to be mapped on a joystick.I highly recommend this joystick if you are on a budget, and still want a well built and functional joystick.

If you've seen me flying RNGR-15 on the FSATC boards, this is the stick I use. Popsicle stick taped to the throttle for a collective. Duct tape and drywall screws mount it to the desk. Total ghetto engineering, my mounting scheme. BUT, great for flying helicopters. View hat, R and L tail rotor, PTT radio, view select, plus cyclic and collective, all in one, really inexpensive stick. I've been cranking on mine for about 4 years. No sign of it getting sloppy in the controls. One of the tiny screw threaded holes in the base stripped as part of my ghetto mounting. Didn't bother a thing.I've genuinely tried to find a "better" stick, either in function or build quality. I'm really not coming up with any alternatives to this 20 dollar stick. Even the expensive HOTAS sticks don't match the function of this plastic thing. Thanks - Lumpy

I was looking for a joystick to replicate a handbrake for my simulation rig. As you can see in my picture, I am using a wheel stand pro with a Logitech g27 wheel. I was sick of using a button on the wheel as the handbrake so I started looking for alternatives. Luckily I came across this joystick because the price was unbeatable just to try it out. I'm happy to say it's working better than ever. I just used gorilla tape and taped it down onto an Amazon box that I put some weight in. Not the prettiest solution but you can hardly tell while playing. For the simulation racers that are looking for a cheap handbrake alternative, you got to try this out. Fanatecs handbrake costs 140 dollars and some others go in the 200 range. If you are just a weekend racer like me then this does perfectly fine for my needs.Drifting in Assetto Corsa and playing Dirt Rally has completely changed. Both games recognized the joystick as an analog input so the handbrake works just like a real handbrake instead of just an on/off button on the steering wheel. I am in love with this thing! I haven't seen a review that talked about using this as a handbrake so if you were skeptical like me, just buy it already!!
