It appears bigger than in the pictures. Good hunk of aluminum. I have not had a chance to use it, but I must say, It looks good hanging off the front of my Jeep

Pay attention to to the size. It is huge...would look way out of place on the front bumper of my midsize SUV. It is good quality and I wish it would have worked or they offered a bit smaller one. I just couldn't put this hanging off the front of my Xterra.

Great solid productYou will need snap ring pliers and maybe something to cut or remove the original hook from your winch.

I love this item it is just as good as far as I’m concerned as factor 55 less than half the cost. It is bigger than I expected which is a good thing has a very nice weight feels like a quality piece. Only laughable downside is it comes with two stickers to protect the paint it on emblems and when you pull the stickers off you got to have glue remover to get the excess glue off LOL. Great concept and easy installation. The problem I ran into though is that since the shackle sticks straight out in front, any bumper hit is going to put rearward force on the winch unit on a small surface area. The potential for damage from even just a dumb parking lot bump isn't worth the upside of the shackle. I took it off and went back to the hook. This might be great for someone else's configuration but too risky for mine.

I gave this a 5 star because it is well made and good quality as is the case with Smittybuilt products. However, when I pulled the pin to install it I found a rock wedged in the slot behind the pin where you couldn't see it. The part has no indication of being used. I think perhaps a disgruntled employee? I pulled the rock out. No harm no faul. Smittybuilt is still great in my book

I added this to my Warn 8274 winch when I upgraded to synthetic line and aluminum hawse fairlead. It's safer and simpler than a traditional hook. A clean and tidy look, and my entire winch line is protected on the drum when not in use. I successfully used it to rescue 6 different vehicles during a snow storm the first week I had it installed. The finish shows a few dings and scratches after moderate use, which is why I gave it 4 stars for durability, but those are merely cosmetic. I great product that I recommend to anyone who might want to upgrade their winch.

Really like this shackle. I do not have to worry about having the line hanging out or a hook moving around possibly causing damage. Awesome product.

Install was super easy, but you might want a snap ring pliers, makes it super simple. Looks good and will be functional and strong, just haven't used it yet for actual recovery.

It fits perfectly, although it does seem to stick out a little further than I thought, as it really is a large piece. That being said, it's also rock solid.Unfortunately, the first time I needed to winch somebody after installing the thimble, the person being winched didn't have a good point to attach a d-ring, so I was forced to get creative with a tree saver strap wrapped around a tow bar. Point being... don't throw your hook away. It SHOULD fit your thimble if you need it, and my hook is the first thing I threw back in my recovery pack once I got home.

A little bigger than I expected. But it's solidly made, easy to install as long as you have snap ring pliers. I did have one 3/4" D-ring shackle that the throat on the shackle was not wide enough to fit on this but two others fit fine so I am not taking anything away from the product for that. I'm sure that it is stronger than the shackle! It is very very beefy! I did drop one star because I think it might be Overkill and it could have been smaller making it look better on the Jeep and still function. But that's just my opinion. It WILL do the job!

Go ahead, spend double or triple for the name brand closed loop shackle attachment, if you must. But if you are on a budget, but don't want to sacrifice quality, this works just dandy.The snap ring was difficult to remove/install, but it's also NOT coming loose. The SST cross pin isn't loose and fits nicely.I've used this a few times now, and find it satisfactory for the money. IMHO the only way to step up over this is with a flat link.
