Please remember the ring that matches your desired speed and frequency (33 1/3 rpm with 50 Hz and 45 rpm with 50 Hz are valid for Europe). Put Strobe it on the turntable platter and start the turntable. The tonearm remains in its initial position. Align a mains powered light source directly to the turntable with Strobe it rotating. The dashes of the previously pinned ring should now give the impression to stand still. If they seem to move slightly forward or backwards, the speed is either too high or too low.

Not much to say about this very simple device. Very well made (quite thick) and it does the job perfectly.

Works great but you may need a dedicated light to make it work now a days.I used this stroboscopic disc to help me adjust my record players speeds which were running slightly (and audibly) slow.Stroboscopic discs like this only work when you have a light source that pulses (not visible to us) at the correct frequency. When the correct frequency of light is present your eyes will see an optical effect. When your turn table is operating at the correct speed the square links of the rings on the disc will appear to stop rotating and become static. When the image is static the correct speed has been achieved.Incandescent bulbs operate at the desired frequency but most incandescent house lights have been replaced with LED bulbs which don't operate at the desired frequency. Now a days you can buy what look like a small torch which has an LED set to the correct frequency.I found a seller on eBay who makes these battery sized hand held lights for £20.

had to go on u tube to see how to use it, had to use a lead light that still had an incandescent bulb in it,but it did show my RP3 was running fast, which I corrected on the new power supply

My 1985-ish linear tracking turntable was running a little fast, and since it's direct drive, there was no belt issue. I found the speed adjustment potentiometers on the motor PCB, so this disc was incredibly useful to resolve (perfectly) my speed problem. Since it uses the 60Hz flicker of AC power, it's really easy to use. The US regulates that 60Hz pretty rigidly, so I'm totally comfortable relying on a standard bulb to take advantage of this. In my case it was an LED ceiling fan fixture, but I think an incandescent bulb would work fine, too. Compact Fluorescent didn't work well for some reason. You don't have to point the light at this--just ambient light from a bulb is sufficient. Sunlight==pointless. This disc is the same size, thickness, and approximate weight of a 33 1/3 album, so any variation the weight a full size record might create is duplicated. You can freely download a very accurate PDF and print it out on paper to do the same job as this disc, but I find the disc far easier to use due to its size and weight, and also due to the size of the strobe rings. However, I compared one of those printed PDF files with this, and had the exact same results. This product is just easier to eyeball the strobe effect.

The tick marks work with 60Hz. The protractor on side B was lined up well enough for me to get my new cartridge working well.
