It didn't take any time for this for the egg smell to go away. We had the water heater drained because of the weather. The old Anode was made of Magnesium and had a build up of sulfur on the Anode. We changed it and immediately there was no smell. For the price, I can honestly say this was a godsend! If you have egg smelly water, this will fix it for basically nothing. I feared that I would have to live with the smell. Now, I don't.

Had the rotten smell coming from the water tank. Removed the old rod that was rotting away and replaced with this and flushed out the tank. Going on 2 weeks with no smell so far. Hopefully it will last a long time
