I purchased this machine in 2014, and it is now 2019 - and this serger still works wonderfully!! The only issue that I don't care for is that there is not a tension-release lever (so I can't just pull out more thread when removing fabric I have serged) - I have to keep sewing a long line of thread. I have a White brand serger that releases tension, so I can pull out as much thread as I want to. Other than that, this serger is amazing. I highly recommend it. Please mark if you find my review helpful. Thank you so much!

My new 5 Star Rating-I wasn't charmed at first but found a lot to like about this machine...mostly that it was a serger and I had never had one. Over the last few weeks we have bonded. I just took a class and showed up with the most basic of machines. Everyone else had ultra high end machines. Man, seeing the issues they were having made me eternally grateful that I chose this machine over the fancier ones as I have had not a single issue which was not attributable to the woman in front of the machine. I committed to rethread and serge something daily. Within a few days I was in love with the arranged marriage. This is a work horse. Threading is now second nature and EASY as almost anything is if you know what you are doing. For anyone who has trouble threading the needle as did I, turn the light on the machine and use a piece of white paper behind the needle (an old sewing machine trick). It really helps. I now thread the needles within one or two attempts.Original: With a 4 Star rating A very nice little gizmo. I have never had a serger before and wanted one for garment making. This will work very nicely for that. The instructional manual is laughingly horrible and in one instance completely wrong (there are not two stitch length knobs, the one on the left, under the door, adjusts the knife). The DVD's sent didn't work and seemed to be generational copies of an ancient original, maybe from like King Tut's tomb or something and appeared to have photocopied covers. The information and videos from Juki's website were useful as were a number of other online resources. Threading the machine was much easier than I thought it would be. Just like one's sewing machine, there is a sequence that has to be followed. The biggest "trick" I learned was to make sure the thread kind-of snaps into the tension dials. The loopers were the easiest part to thread. Threading the needle eyes, for me, remain difficult as there isn't a lot of room. I removed the pressure foot which helped. Once set up and sewing (now takes about 10 minutes from start to finish and once I really get it probably about 5 minutes) the stitch looks beautifully balanced. I haven't been able to get it to do the fancy stuff with the feet, like gathering, and again the instructions included are not very helpful. Once I master them, they will probably be worth the extra paid for the package. The carrying case is sturdy, the thread is high quality. The needles are 90's which seem a little large for most projects, but needles are relatively inexpensive so not a big deal. This is definitely not an industrial machine but it will absolutely do what I bought it for: finish seams.

I recently purchased the Juki Pearl LIne MO-654DE as my first serger and I'm very happy I did. It is easy to thread (once you take the time to figure it out) and it serges beautifully. I highly recommend this machine, and this particular package deal, to anyone looking for their first serger or wanting to upgrade from a more basic serger. I agonized over which serger to buy and finally decided to go with this one over the entry level Babylock machine because I wanted something that could muscle through layers of medium to heavyweight fabric. So far everything I've thrown at this machine, it has handled with ease. You may be wondering whether you need all of those feet. The answer is, it depends. If all you want to do is finish raw edges, then probably not. But if you want to take full advantage of the serging and decorative stitch capabilities of this machine (or think you might want to someday), you are going to want at least some of the feet that comes with the package deal from Sewing Machines Plus. When you consider that if purchased individually, each foot can run $35 to $45 or more each, you can see what a great deal this is.Overall, you can't go wrong with this machine and this particular package deal.

The seller (SewingMachinesPlus) shipped this item from California and it arrived almost a week before the estimated delivery date. The machine was carefully and securely packaged to withstand the UPS and USPS shipping. The outer box was quite large and upon opening it the machine was in its own secure box. If you receive this at work, its best to unpack it before you go home because it is an awkward box to attempt to carry to your car or take on the train. The box contained everything (all high quality) in the description The travel bag is heavy duty and can withstand the weight of the machine and has enough room to accommodate everything included in this "I want it all" package. You also get 4 spools of MaxiLock in white/cream and 4 spools of black. For new serger enthusiasts, this brand is of superior quality and is exactly what you should be using. If you run out, please do not make the mistake of getting cheap thread. It is one thing you will be sorry you decided to get cheap with. The machine came pre-threaded with a piece of already tested fabric. Not sure if this was done by Juki or SMP but it shows someone definitely took the time to ensure the serger was working properly prior to shipping. If you are new to serging, the thread paths may seem intimidating. There are two ways you can conquer the threading battle. The easy way, open the spools of thread and tie a small knot to the corresponding thread. This is a good way to use the machine out of the box. Although, it is a direct avenue to take, in my opinion, it is not the best way. In order to become a serger queen, it is important to get to know your machine. The way I see it, I would not want to spend 10-15 minutes figuring this out while I am in the middle of a project. As the saying goes knowledge is power. The best way is to remove all of the threads and start from the beginning. It will take approximately 10-15 minutes to familiarize yourself with the paths and the parts. Everything is color coded so there is very little room for error; all you do is "connect the dots". If you have a hard time seeing the internal parts, make sure you keep a small flashlight around or a magnifying glass. You should have received two DVDs which contain the workbook and helpful videos. If you don't have either, go to Juki's site or an online video site; either one will have detailed videos on the proper threading technique for this serger.Once threaded, I found the machine required very little adjusting. The presser foot response is excellent and allowed me to go slowly or very quickly. The light was bright enough for me to see all of the parts above the plate. All of the important parts are made of real metal not cheap metal-like material. There is no way this machine is going to break down anytime soon. The machine is not noisy compared to other sergers I have used in the past. You can have a conversation with anyone around you, listen to music or hear yourself think. I feel it takes very little space which is excellent for those who have a nook as their sewing room. The quality of the stitches are beautiful and I don't feel like my projects will easily come apart. For those who are still contemplating this purchase, please don't hesitate - just buy it. You will not easily find the individual feet or the other extras that are offered in this package for this price. The seller offered excellent customer service and prompt responses when I contacted them.I highly recommend this machine for those who are looking for a high quality serger with all the bells and whistles without having to sell your first born.
