An era of artistic flowering, this was also the era of poets and samurai.

In 1928, at the age of twenty-two, Peter Beilenson began printing books on a small press in the basement of his parents’ home in Larchmont, New York.

I love it. It’s a beautiful journal, exactly as advertised, and smells so good and new. I just wish it was college ruled instead of wide ruled, but that’s not a big deal. The pages are excellent quality, the paper is super smooth and luxe.

There are no negatives with this item. It's all good.The cover art is a beautiful rendition of Japanese maple in fall colours. The magnetic cover works well and holds the journal closed securely. The paper quality is really good, and thick enough that it would also work well with fountain pens or liquid gel type pens. Regular ink pens would obviously present no challenges. The printed lines on the pages is subtle, but easily visible to guide your writing... though not so obvious to be distracting when reading the contents afterwards.A very nice hard cover journal, and I do recommend it.

The simple fact is that I'm obsessed with this journal. It's (obviously) very pretty. I love the acid-free paper; I never knew that writing on specific types of paper could feel different. Any "journal collectors" would love this. (And to be frank, the latch setup is handy. I loathe the rubber band-like straps to hold journals closed. Magnets are far superior and more reliable, so long as one doesn't over-stuff their journal with additional papers/photos/notes.)

This is the third Peter Pauper Press purchase for me, and they did not disappoint. The detail is amazing, and it fits the autumn theme so well. The lines are fainter than the other two journals I previous bought, but that's not a problem for me. The magnetic fold is a nice touch.

Came well packaged and protected. Its spot on for what I was hoping for it is a really beautiful journal/notebook that makes you feel like you are holding something that is mean to be treasured. Don't let this sway you from using it as that is what it's mean for and it would be a shame for it to sit unfilled. Some reviewers mentioned the lines being too faint I included a photo half in sunlight half in shade so each viewer can decide if it's too light or not. I am using this as a mixed media journal and not strictly for writing so I'm relieved that the lines are not as dark as that saves me time from trying to find new ways to cover them up in each of my entries. Regardless it's a gorgeous cover and would make a beautiful present for someone or for yourself :)

The detail work on this notebook, along with the artwork and its coloring, gives it a sense of almost glowing subtly, without being at all garish. It reminds me of hand-painted detail on several pieces of Japanese teaware that I use. As with Japanese teaware, the artwork is proportioned well to the spaces on the binding that it covers. The notebook lies flat well for writing and the magnetic closure is a useful feature. I'd give it 5 stars it had a ribbon bookmark and a pocket inside the back cover. I'd also like something in this line with a similar aesthetic that would be a bit larger.
