This is the second Baofeng AR-5RM radio I have purchased and I am just as pleased with this second radio as I was with the first. Fair price, radio does EXACTLY what it was advertised to do and was shipped promptly.

Bought this for my airsoft set up, but now I use it for more. Setting up and getting it comes ready was easy, told my buddy to press and hold his mic while mine was searching for his frequency. We got it and did the rest of the set up manually. And now I even use it for storm chasing too, has many NOAA channels that I need to listen to, and even has a man down button (would not recommend pushing it with out a license, very illegal). And it came with every thing I need, extra battery, earphone, hand mic, charger and even programing cable. Love this radio, i never leave home with out it.

Sort of an upgrade over the ubiquitous UV-5R. I haven't really been able to figure out the difference between this and the UV-5r, I have both and they seem to be the same radio. What I really like about this is that it comes with the extended battery. I didn't even know they made an extended battery in this form factor, so that is awesome!!! I keep extended batteries on all my UV-5Rs so that's really awesome if they have one for this too.... The batteries are USB C rechargeable, which more and more these days is becoming pretty much mandatory... All of these cheap Chinese radios are pretty intuitive to use. That's one of the things I like about them. I have a really nice Yaesu handheld and don't get me wrong. You really can't even compare it to one of these in terms of function, but there's real learning curve to operateing it and it's 5 times the price. For the money, these radios are a great buy!!As a bonus, you get a programming cable and upgraded antenna and speaker mike.

The AR-5RM is one of two desirable radios in the 5RM series, due to it not being frequency locked like its siblings. This allows it to be used for MARS/CAP purposes etc. Many combos of the AR-5RM come with items that aren't really useful, but this one having the extended battery, programming cable and driver, extra antenna, and speaker mic really does present a good value and it would be the one I recommend people purchase. The radio itself is an excellent performer, able to receive across multiple bands and transmit on many of them as well. The screen is clear and easy to read, the speaker is decent producing clear audio that is easy to understand, and the form factor while a bit larger than the UV-5R is not cumbersome or unfamiliar to those who have used BaoFeng radios in the past.

This radio has a broken speaker or something is wrong with the motherboard. This radio only works if you plug in an external mic or earpiece, and it transmits poorly. Yes I know it was an inexpensive radio. Though they are know to be good for the price sadly this one has to be returned.😭

This radio package came nicely equipped including two antennas and a very nice large battery. The build quality is typical Baofeng and more than adequate for the price and purpose. The audio is actually surprisingly good and the NOAA reciever sensitivity was better than many other radios in this class. The radio has the standard feature set for current radios of this class and they work as described in advertising and manuals. Anyone familar with the Baofeng operating system will be able to use it immediately. This is another tri band (sort of) radio. The transmitter measured 8.6 watts into a 50 ohm non reactive load on 146 mhz, 5.6 watts at 223 mhz and 8.7 watts at 446. Using the short antenna, the transmitter measured 9.0 watts at 1.46 swr at 146 mhz, 3.1 watts at 8.0 swr on 223 mhz and 5.7 watts at 1.4 swr on 446 mhz. Using the long antenna the transmitter produced 10.5 watts at 1.0 swr on 146 mhz, 6.1 watts at 3.5 swr on 223 mhz and 10.1 watts at 1.9 swr on 446 mhz. This is truly a 10 watt radio on two meters and 70 cm.Transmitter harmonics measured -32 db on 146 mhz and showed no measurable harmonics on 223 and 446.Reciever sensitivity measured a uniform -132 db across all bands.Bottom line, solid radio, good value for the package.
