I used this on a 5 year old American Standard setup, not a complicated system. This particular assembly has a safety feature in the Thermocouple that caused a loss of milliwatts significant enough that by the time power got back to the thermostat, there wasn't enough to power the pilot light valve. Safety is paramount but if the system doesn't work, safety is sort of a moot point.

I’ve got an AO Smith GCV 50 100 natural gas water heater, and this pilot assembly fits. My pilot light had gone out and wouldn’t stay lit when I tried relighting, and replacing this part did the trick. Pilot light stayed lit the first try and I now have hot water again.I’ve read some reviews saying the part only works for a few months. I will circle back if that happens. But for Day 1, it’s working well!

If you are reading this, your water heater probably does not work. My model is the 2004 40 Gal select state water heater. My pilot light went out and I can not re ignite it. Was going to replace it for more than 1k , but figure to try this out.It is a pain to reinstall because the burner has to sit on the U groove bracket, I had to take it out and do it again twice. For the position of the burner , I have to be laying down on the ground, tough to see the position with the panel in the way so you have to feel it...After everything is in place, turn gas on and use soapy water to check the connections for bubbles, if none, congratulation, you just saved hundreds of dollar.... i took a hot shower afterward, and it feels good after few days of cold water.I will update this review if anything happens ( hopefully not).Good luck ! DIYer , have fun and start saving your hard earn money !

with a few modifications. My husband is very handy and was able to work with the product. Such a blessing to be able to purchase this item and repair appliance ourself considering what service calls cost these days. And it's still working, so we are very happy with it.
