The sun shade is easy to open and close like an umbrella, you just have to fold up the sides manually and wrap it up. It takes up the same amount of space as a standard fold-up umbrella when folded up, and the sheathe helps to keep it tidy for storing. The handle is short and has a flexible section in the middle to help hold it in place against the dashboard. There's a slit with a velcro strap to fit around the rear view mirror.I thought I selected the 53.1'' x 29.5'' size, but my order says I was sent the 57" x 31.5" size, which is too big for my car. Windshield sun shades work best when they are flush with the windshield, so measure your car's windshield from the inside and make sure you get the size that's slightly smaller than the dimensions, specifically the cross-bar dimensions as they can't change. For whichever size I got, the widest part of the reflective fabric is 57" wide only at the bottom, but the cross-bars only go 47" across at the bottom and 48" wide at the top. The widest part in the middle where the horizontal cross-bar is is 52" wide. The tallest part of the fabric is 31", but the space between vertical cross-bars is 30" tall. The height of the sides between the diagonal cross-bars is 25". Since my car's windshield is 47" wide at the top and 53" wide at the middle and bottom, it's a little too wide and doesn't sit flush against the windshield. The product images give misleading information. The umbrella frame is certainly not what I would consider "military -level" as it is as thin and flimsy as a cheap, freebie umbrella that would flip in the slightest wind. There is only a single layer of fabric and it is not silk, it's a thin polyester with a shiny silver coating on the outside. The pockets that hold the tips of the frame are smaller and less sturdy looking than the product images as well, but at least if a frame tip pops out of its pocket, it's easy to put it back in.I wouldn't spend more than $20 on this windshield sun shade, and only if I knew it was going to fit. This product is intended for cars, not cats.

Very simply, this is like an umbrella that when you open it up, it is a rectangle that covers the inside of your windshield. On the top (or window-facing side) is silver reflective material, and on the bottom (or interior-facing side) it is black. There is a cut for the rear view mirror to slip in, but most importantly is how it sits on your dashboard: the “umbrella post” has a few inches of adjustable gooseneck so that when the shade is pressed against your windshield, the post can be bent down so it can hold the whole contraption in place. Pretty neat. The construction isn’t extremely durable, but for the amount of fan-out it does and in also looking for a balance with how large/heavy it is, it seems like a decent trade off. That said, you do need to carefully open and close it or else you risk bending something. I wouldn’t compare it to a $3 umbrella, more like the $10-15 one, but definitely not the $20+.So all said, I like it and it works much better than the cardboard sheets that get held on the windshield with suction cups. I get the feeling if I don’t rush opening/closing it and put it in the supplied storage slip-bag, it will last for years and I don’t have to wet suction cups anymore to keep my car cool!

I ordered this windshield screen to replace my old one, and it’s a total upgrade. The material is thicker, and the umbrella-style design is much easier to open and close. It also comes with a carrying case, which is a nice touch. Even though I can never quite fold it back the way it came, the case keeps it in place when not in use.I drive an RDX and it fits really well, covering about 98% of the windshield. After using it for about a week in Houston, I can definitely feel the difference. It noticeably cuts down on the heat inside the car and makes cooling it down much quicker. I’d absolutely recommend this and would purchase it again.

We are really excited about this for our sedan! It is easy to install and becomes very compact between uses. It blocks sun well and seems well made. I will say, despite it saying “universal fit” we feel it is a bit of a squeeze in our Kia sedan- hence the 4 stars instead of 5. The flexible handle really helps keep it in place! Will update review down the road if anything changes after several months of use!

The Ingenuity of this is to be admired. I don't know why somebody didn't think of it sooner but I'm sure but they did. Since it is in the design of an umbrella it's very easy to open and close for folding. The fit for our 2016 Dodge worked well as far as sun coming through. The umbrella is well built as far as durability. It's basically self-storing and close it strap it and there you go. It comes with a bag to put it in but there's really not a need and it would be frustrating to get it that tightly folded to fit in the small bag it comes with so that's not a deal breaker for me. I still feel it's five stars. This will protect our Dash from sun damage and cracking so I feel it's well worth the money that you're paying for it. Highly recommended for the ease of use and protection it gives.
