Right off the rip I want to say this is my first travel router or portable router. I actually have tons of other routers and a couple of them that I flashed with DDWRT so this is definitely a new experience for me. Overall I want to say that I've been super happy with all the wavelink products that I've purchased over the last few months. I actually have an outdoor Wi-Fi repeater, an Ethernet adapter, nvme 2230 mag safe housing for my Samsung s24 ultra and now this portable router made by that company. At first I was not very happy with this thing because I was having trouble getting the USB tethering to work but now that I haven't figured out I'm actually in extremely happy with it. I'm actually using it right now with USB tethering to write this review. So I do have a couple issues with this router but the majority of everything about it is good. This thing is super convenient and portable. It's super tiny and fits into my laptop backpack very easily so that is a huge Plus. It also comes with a cord and a power brick to power it. It also comes with a small ethernet cable which I thought was super cool because I can use that with the ethernet adapter that I have for my laptop made by the same company that is also very heavy duty and good quality. So if you were hooking this thing up to a modem it would work just fine. The app is all right. Once you get into the actual app itself through like an internet browser it's actually very easy to navigate compared to a lot of routers on the market but there's limited functionality in the app itself if you're doing the stuff through the app. So on to a couple of the things I have issues with. I tried to add a VPN to this thing and I was able to get my VPN on there very easily but multiple times I end up having to reset the router which ends up taking the VPN back off and that was because of a tethering issue. There's about two different ways I'd like to use this router and I haven't been able to figure out how to do both of them the way I want to just yet anyway. So I have a VPN that isn't always on VPN on my s24 ultra so what I'm USB tethering I'm not really worried about the VPN because my connection going to the router is already behind the VPN. So if I use this thing after a full reset and just a little bit of configuration the USB tethering actually works really well. I literally just plug in a USB cord to a usb-a cord to the router and it disperses my internet just fine throughout the house. I found that you do have to have a very good Cable in order to USB tether. I have one of the 240 w ones that's very thick and has LED lights and everything so it hasn't been an issue other than I can't really just use like a small cord or regular kind of cord that I have laying around to do it. My main issue right now is I'd like to be able to set my phone down and use it as a USB tether to the router as I'm out and about and traveling but I would also like to have the function of using it as a repeater with a VPN on it and that's kind of where the issue lies. Multiple times I've tried to set it up as a repeater to my hotspot on my phone for what I want to be able to use my phone in my hand and not have it tied up and not be able to use it because it's sitting there USB tethered to the router and so far I've got my hotspot to be able to be used as a repeater on it with a VPN but it seems like it's very hit or miss and also if I unplugged the router and turn it back on and obviously if I was traveling I'd have to unplug it put it in the bag then when I'm ready to set it up I would plug in the router have it turn on turn on my hotspot and you would think that it would just disperse my internet or if I wanted to use like a hotels in it or something like that and that's where I've ended up having to reset the router multiple times. So since I'm not currently traveling as of right now it hasn't been a huge issue because I feel like it could possibly be some sort of user error or possibly maybe it does not have the function of being able to have both of those set up but I'm going to do some more digging and keep trying but for now what they're working with the USB tether I've been super happy for a small little portable flash travel router. Overall this thing is built very well it's got a fan in it to keep it cool and it's got some pretty straightforward functionality that works very well and it's at a very decent price point so I highly recommend it

I ordered this little travel router because I've had to go in different directions of late, and I carry a few laptops with me when I go. So I want to have the ease of setting up my own local network wherever I am. I've been carrying a big Asus router that is, well...bulky. It did the job, but it took up too much space in the case. I wanted something that would be smaller and easier to travel with, but I also wanted to bring in the VPN functionality so I could connect to the devices I don't bring with me (I do a lot of training, and I need to be able to access those devices while training). Before, I had to run Wireguard on a separate laptop that traveled with me, which all of my trainees would connect through on the network to reach my devices back home. It was cumbersome to set up, but it did the job. When I got this little Wavlink travel router/AP, the first thing I did was test out the Wireguard functionality. When I tell you it made it easier, I'm not just saying it. It took the process of getting things ready for the trainees down from three hours (and lots of hands-on instruction so they understand what to do) to 30 seconds. I mean, I start the Wavlink, turn on Wireguard, and tell them to connect to the wifi and ping an IP. Boom. they're done!I did play around a little bit with the OpenVPN settings, but I've always had more luck with Wireguard, and it's already in place with the other devices. So, I stayed with that.I really like that there's a little switch I can program to turn Wireguard on or off. It means I can disable connection to those devices at the flip of a switch, which is great when you're doing training and troubleshooting.I really like that I can power this from USB-C. I had to make sure I had enough juice to do it - don't try to plug it in through a non-powered hub. But I ended up staging a USB-C power cable with one of the devices I carry with me, so I just plug it in and flip the switch. And it's ready to go.So now my only downfall. I had a few problems, at first, getting the Wireless to connect to an existing network (One of the facilities I was in refused to give me a hard-wired network connection -- it was wireless only.). It took me a couple of minutes to find the right area and get the connection going. Once set up, it ran without issue, it just was not as intuitive as I thought it would be.Overall, it's been a great addition and I'm happy with it.

Overall a solid design and web interface is good. The initial setup was fairly easy, but the layout of the pages in the web interface are a bit confusing to some users. In my case the desire for a travel router is easy to connect to a Public (Hotel, conference center, etc.) network (wired or Wi-Fi), and connect to a VPN of one form. This router has three modes that allow you to prioritize Lan (wired), Wi-Fi, and hotspot (cell connection via cable connected to cell phone) which is perfect.. Once setup if wired option is available your online.. The web interface connecting to new Wi-Fi networks, works well. ( a few times had to scan more than once to find a Wi-Fi signal, this may have been more about the networks I was connecting to). Overall once connected the device works great, even with multiple devices connected at the same time (tested up to 10).The VPN setup options are great with most options available and easy to setup. The Web UI could use a few updates to show the other VPN options on the home screen when not using the VPN Client option. The device was given to a non-technical users for a trip and they had no issues (Once the device was setup) the unit always connected to the VPN (primarily used Open VPN & wireguard). The App needs a lot of work and generally would recommend not using in it's current state (a lot of promise but needs work to not frustrate the user), for now stick to the web UI.Overall, for the cost, great little box.. The company could fix all of the small "Rough around the edges" type items in software and the hardware seems solid.. Once setup it was largely a turn on and forget..
