Docking station ziet er fraai uit maar wat belangrijker is dat het allemaal meteen goed werkt

I recommend this for the casual user who needs something simple to read external HDD's that have lots of media or games that are stored on such drives. My old external drive enclosure housing whatever didn't power on anymore and I was too lazy to figure out why, so that's when I came across this one in particular.Easy to setup, just basically find a decent place for it, plug in the power and data cables, add the drives and power it on and within moments it read the drives and there was no need to install the software. As long as it could support 16TB that's all that mattered. Plus there's not much to it as far bulk, the power supply is 1 piece, unlike my old one which is a brick with a swapple cable yada, yada, yada and it sits perfectly on top of the case as pictured.Unsure about it's lifespan, the old one lasted several years and went through alot of mobility transitions, but this weighs alot less, takes up very little space and is easy to pack up as I'm going to be moving soon, so that helps.

My computer is coming up on 5 years old. From past experience it's about due to die. The most likely failure of any computer is the Hard-drive because it's the only thing with moving parts and wearable media. So I decided to intervene by cloning the Hard-drive. In the past, I was doomed into A.) Buying a new PC and installing all my software again (not to mention recovering files from backup) or replacing the failing drive and executing a recovery leaving me with the same problems a option A.After trying for a week to clone my HP All-in-One hard drive to an external USB hard drive, this magic box saved me. I had tried 3 different cloning software applications. All of them completed the clone AFTER UP TO 10 HOURS OF WAITING for a 1TB drive, but I could not boot from the external drive even after turning off 'secure boot' option of windows 10 and changing the boot order.I finally decided to change tactics and purchased an identical hard-drive along with this Docking Station. The drive and this docking station together were not much more than cloning software by itself.I then removed my old drive and inserted it into slot A. Put my new drive into slot B and started the clone. It completed in 1.5 hours. I put the new drive back in the computer and was up and running. The used drive is now safely tucked away waiting for "Death" day. The docking station worked flawlessly right out of the box. (DON'T CONNECT IT TO YOUR PC WHEN MAKING A STAND ALONE CLONE). You can connect is if you want to read stuff from whatever drives you have inserted into the docking station, but leave it disconnected for cloning one drive to another.Cheers and happy cloning!

I've had one of these for about six months and have now bought a second one for my wife's computer. I've never used the clone function, so can't comment about that. I use this as a cheap and simple way to connect hard drives to my Mac computer (I initially used this with a Windows 7 computer and it worked with that also). This does exactly what I want it to do: allow me to use less expensive internal HDDs as external drives with my iMac. It works with Time Machine (although I've never had to use it to restore a crashed computer, so can't attest to that) and also works as a good external HDD dock. I prefer this use of internal HDDs rather than made-for-purpose external drives because this allows me to inexpensively keep multiple backups of important files and photos. When I used it with a MacBook Pro, I found that occasionally this would disconnect and I would get prompt that it had "not ejected properly". This was an annoyance to simply restart the unit, but did not result in any data corruption, as it only lost the connection while the laptop was asleep. I have not had this problem even once with the iMac, so I assume it has something to do with power-saving options on the laptop.I'm very happy with this thing so far, and "would I buy again" is answered with "yes, I bought a second one for a second family computer.IMPORTANT NOTE: when placing a brand-new, unformatted HDD into this with iMac, I have found that the new drive must be in the front slot, slot B. When placed in slot A, the computer will not recognize the drive. When in slot B, no problem. Once formatted, it doesn't matter which slot I use, it works just fine. I assume this has something to do with how this thing is wired for cloning? At any rate, that's what I've found.
