Ideal for flattening, truing, and jointing smaller boards, this fore plane bridges dips and high spots to create a level, smooth surface. Its 18-1/8" length makes it particularly effective for working on large panels, and its substantial mass helps it "stay in the cut," minimizing chatter and improving control. The #6 is also well-suited for use with a shooting board.
Constructed from ductile cast iron, the body and frog provide maximum stability and durability. The precision-lapped sole and sides ensure accuracy across the entire length of the plane. Measuring 18-1/8" long, 2-7/8" wide, and weighing 8.3 lbs, this fore plane delivers the heft needed for efficient material removal and smooth planing. The cryogenically treated O1 steel iron, 0.120" thick and 2" wide, is hardened to 54-58 HRc, offering excellent edge retention, easy sharpening, and the ability to take ultra-fine shavings.
Designed with a fully machined frog seating system based on early Stanley Bedrock models, this plane provides superior stability and reduces chatter for clean, precise cuts. The innovative frog adjustment mechanism allows for easy, precise mouth opening adjustments without disassembling the iron, optimizing performance for both rough stock removal and fine finishing. The hand-rubbed Sapele wood knob and tote offer a comfortable grip and a refined aesthetic.
Perfect for woodworkers who need a versatile, heavy-duty plane for flattening and jointing, the BR Series #6 Fore Plane is an essential tool for achieving precision and consistency in larger woodworking projects.
