Got this as a substitute for my Yaesu FT-530 for which batteries are difficult to find/expensive. Baofeng could have learned a lot from the 530s UI. I find the UV-5R's interface frustrating and non-intuitive. However, for the price, I can deal with it. Plus, I got a pair. I would have liked a die-cast aluminum body but everything is made out of high-impact "pistol polymers" these days so that's par for the course (and why the price is low). I don't know how well it will hold up long term; we'll see. Also, WTF with the big power/volume knob? It just begs to be used for tuning in VFO mode; it would make the radio so much more friendly!

Got these to make up another hand-out go kit for when we have an ARES/RACES activity and someone needs an HT. Very impressed with all that comes in it! Both the standard and higher capacity batteries have the charging ports on them and the USB charging cable as well as the drop in chargers makes for a great setup.The UV-5R is a pretty straightforward HT and while I canโt measure actual output I have no trouble hitting local repeaters.

This was a good deal on these radios,,I have 3 others that we use also, usually when we go out of town camping,,, easy to program,, great for listening to what's going on,,, or using them out camping,,, we also use them for work on occasions,, all around great radio,,, for a fyi,, if you get one don't forget to get the program cable for your computer,,alot easier to program with that

These worked up to 3 miles in wooded area. Best by far. Seem to stay charged well and came with a lot of accessories including ear buds. Loved that. Will be buying more once they go on sale!
