Product Description

NH-U14S Header

The NH-U14S is the 14cm top model of Noctua’s classic U-series single tower CPU coolers, which have received more than 400 awards and recommendations from the international press. While the large, six heatpipe design and the NF-A15 140mm fan with PWM support for fully automatic speed control allow the cooler to best the renowned quiet cooling performance of all other U-series coolers, its 52mm slim shape still assures full compatibility with tall RAM modules on AM5/AM4. Topped off with the trusted, pro-grade SecuFirm2 multi-socket mounting system and Noctua’s proven NT-H1 thermal compound, the NH-U14S is a complete premium quality solution that combines superb performance, high compatibility and quiet operation.

NH-U14S

Reasonable size for better overall compatibility

Standing 165mm tall, the NH-U14S is short enough to fit most modern high-end cases. Measuring 150mm wide (including fan and fan clips), the NH-U14S provides better compatibility with multi-GPU setups as compared to tower coolers that are wider than 150mm or use fans wider than 150mm.

NH-U14S RAM

Full RAM compatibility on AM5 & AM4

With its 52mm slim design, the NH-U14S will not overhang the RAM slots on AMD AM5 and AM4 motherboards, thus guaranteeing full compatibility with tall memory modules. On Intel (LGA1851, LGA1700, LGA1200, LGA115x) motherboards, the front fan will often overhang the first RAM slot, so please verify RAM and case compatibility in the Noctua Compatibility Centre (ncc.noctua.at).

NF-A14 fan

NF-A15 140mm PWM Fan

The NF-A15 is a premium quality quiet 140mm fan with a round frame that complies with Noctua's AAO standard. Featuring sophisticated aerodynamic design measures such as Flow Acceleration Channels, the NF-A15 further improves the renowned quiet cooling performance of the award-winning NF-P14.

NT-H1

NT-H1 thermal compound

Noctua's much-acclaimed NT-H1 is a well proven pro-grade TIM solution that provides minimum thermal resistance, excellent ease-of-use and outstanding reliability, which makes it suitable for use in professional server and workstation environments.

The item is clearly well made and very good quality. It replaced a much smaller fan - this one is huge, the heat-sink takes a large amount of space inside the tower, but it is well worth it as the cpu now runs significantly cooler. I dare say my original heatsink and fan was not up to the job as the cpu temperatures were running higher than I would have liked and the fan was noisier than it was when I ran a lesser processor. Having upgraded the processor and not the heatsink fan, I have had time to realise the difference that this, often overlooked and arguably unsexy part of a pc can make. My pc is now whisper quiet with cpu temperatures cut by half or more and surprisingly, I have a substantially faster pc after the upgrade that suddenly met the criteria for Windows 11! Honestly, the difference was that great, and the first time after installing this and booting my pc, it gave me the option to upgrade (previously Microsoft had said that I did not meet the criteria).Set aside about an hour to read the instructions and become familiar with what you have bought before installation. You will need to see both sides of the motherboard to mount the heatsink as the mounting bracket fits on the back of the motherboard using pins that then go through the board and secure the heatsink. If you can imagine, the processor and motherboard are sandwiched between the mounting bracket and the heatsink. Building pcs is not my job, so many people might be more familiar with this concept, but my old one simply clipped in place. Once I'd realised the difference, it was a quick job and if I had to do it again, I think it would take me no more than 15 minutes. One other small word of advice would be to use some 99.9% isopropanol alcohol to properly clean the processor prior to installation as a new tube of high quality thermal paste comes with the product and you will want to make sure that it is applied to a clean surface.

Polecam to chłodzenie do ciepłych procesorów.

I put this in my first build and while it might have been a little overkill I am very happy with it. I cut my hand on the heatsink during installation as it is huge and sharp but it allows me to overclock and be stable. Good product.

I built a new Ryzen 9 3900X what runs a dozen VMs. I don’t over lock, but wanted the CPU to stay cool. At idle the CPU was running around 102F and then today I added a second 150mm Notura fan and now at idle it hovers around 37-40C. If I run all cores to 100 percent CPU for 30 minutes it still keeps the CPU well within range topping out around 72-73C depending on how warm my room is. Through all the stress testing all cores stay at 4025-4155. Who needs water cooling with potential leaks. My only concern is the second fan has a noticeable whine at full RPM, but I thing it is the noise of air coming through cooler as I swapped in a new fan with same results.Update:So I have been tinkering with this combo and have found some really goo improvements in 2 ways. First While the Noctua thermal paste gets good reviews, I remounted the HSF using Artic MX4 and noticed about a 1-2C improvement. Then after another 2 weeks I started thinking about airflow through the the fins. The stock NF-A15 is rated at 115m3/h with a static pressure of 1.51 at fill speed at 19.2db. When I added a second HF-A15 I noticed a slight whine likely due to the way the air was being restricted by the fins. I swapped out the second fan for a Redux 120mm 1700rpm fan. This fan is rated at 120 m3/h and a static pressure of 2.83 and while the db rating is 25.1 inside the case I can't tell the difference other than the whine is drastically lowered. I suspect becasue this fan has greater pulling power and it can overcome the restriction of the fins better. It go me thinking why not replace the primary fan with same Redux 120mm and see if moving a tad move air with better ability to overcome the radiator fins may help. Well is has improved my temps yet again. Single core full spec I get 4.38GHz sustained and 4.125GHz all cores for as long as I want (killed it after 20 min). And where my temps yes to settle down around 74C wil all cores I am now around 71-72C. Sure my overall costs is now into low end AIO territory, but I don't want to mess around with AIO and my case is an older case that has plenty of air flow, but less than ideal AIO mounting options. And while the difference overall of Artic MX4 and switching the fans our too me from a very acceptable 75-76C to 71-72C it just provides that little better headroom on CPU thermals and protects its life a tad better.UPDATE:I wanted to update this review since I moved coolers around on my systems. I am moving the U14S to a lower end CPU system (3700X) and replaced it with a DH15S with 3 fans. Why you ask, just to see if these was any gain on the 3900X. Well let me say unless you will overclock the U14S is within 1-2C of the D15S and I have 3 fans on that cooler. The story message is then for mainstream users you need nothing more than a U14S with maybe an addiotnal fan to match even the monster D15 serious with 2 or even 3 fans. This is truly an amazing cooler and worth the cost.

Looks great. Much heavier than I expected. Haven't gotten all the parts for my build yet, so I cant judge performance, but I bought this one specifically for RAM clearance and i9-9900K. comes right up to the ram slots and gives just enough space for RAM. One of the fins on the edges were a bit bent, but you should expect that with the shipping and it shouldn't affect performance much.EDIT: Fan is quiet, keeps the cpu cool. I didn't think I'd like how it looked as much, but it works great with my Corsair 750D build. If I'd change anything about this, it would be a faster fan that looks the same as the original. Keeps my CPU around 29-34 Degrees Celsius on idle, and goes up to 58 during game play. Glad I went with this over any other cooler. I feel like the NH-D15 would be a bit too much for a regular case.EDIT 2: Still a great cooler, but fan started failing on me. Purchased on June 16, 2019, and started making weird noises yesterday (August 5, 2019). Today, I looked over and noticed the fan completely stopped... Started up a few seconds later and turned on and off... Return period ended and now have to wait for RMA. Great cooler, 5/5 still, but not happy with the fan failing.

Decided to go with air instead of liquid cooling even though I have an i7-4770K overclocked to 4.4Ghz so like all Haswell chips, they run hot anyway. I almost purchased the Noctua NH-D14 but I am glad I didn't. After researching CPU Coolers during the process of picking out parts for my new build, I found that the NH-U14S had great results in comparison to some larger, twin tower heat sink coolers like the NH-D14 or the Dark Rock 3 Pro. This is a very large heat sink itself and weighs 1.7lbs with the fan which I am as of now, only running one 140mm fan on it. At idle, my CPU is stable @ 30C - 31C on average at it's stock speed of 3.5Ghz and 35C at 3.9Ghz. This is after installing a Geforce GTX 770 (also at 31C - 32C idle) and I thought clearance might be an issue but it turns out I have about one inch or so which is more than I actually expected. Mounting this CPU Cooler is VERY simple and the brackets used are well designed, it will NOT move.I will be putting another 140mm fan on but it is not because the CPU is reaching extremely high temperatures even at 100% load when I was testing it using various stress/blend testing software. It reached a high of 65C @ stock 3.5Ghz and 78C +/- 2C when overclocked to a stable 4.4Ghz with a +0.001V offset. My ambient room temperature is around 21C or 70F just to use as a control.Basically, this CPU Cooler is worth every penny and rivals it's twice the size big brother NH-D14 and even liquid cooling to a point. I have never liked liquid cooling because even if it is securely hooked up, one mess up and everything is ruined. I looked at the Hyper EVO 212 and am glad I did not purchase it. It simply can not keep up this with cooler at all. Once I put another fan on there (I may go with the redux version from Noctua) I will not be expecting a dramatic decrease in temperature but enough to warrant the purchase and the redux versions have an even higher performance rate.I would definitely suggest this CPU Cooler to ANYONE who wants to go with air cooling instead of liquid. Even with liquid, don't expect more than 3C - 5C difference... just not worth the money nor risk to me, sorry. I must also say that the thermal paste which comes with it, the NH-T1 rivals Arctic Silver and IC Diamond. It has zero curing time and very little goes a long way. I used it on my old box and was astonished at a 14C decrease in temperature. However, that was applied to a stock cooler so it was expected to improve but I didn't realize it would do so by that much.A couple of things to keep in mind if you do purchase this CPU Cooler... you will probably lose your first PCI slot on your motherboard and it's height can cause issues with a lot of cases. I have a Fractal R4 so it is a large mid-sized ATX case and I have plenty of room to spare so make sure you have a wide case, take measurements!!. It cleared ALL RAM slots however only by enough to stick a piece of paper between them so even though I don't use high-profile RAM, you could probably get by with Corsair vengeance RAM but the heat shrouds will stick up far enough to block about an inch of the fan so I would definitely research everything before making a final decision.Anyway, I took a gamble on a very nice CPU Cooler that has nothing but great reviews and was not disappointed at all. The benchmark temperatures were dead on accurate but it also helps that I have a large case and all my case fans are 140mm Fractal silent series fans.. it is absolutely silent. I hear the GPU fans over anything else and because my case is has silent proofing foam and even with a window, you simply can't hear it unless you are sitting in dead silence. The CPU fan produces the least noise of all however. Simply put... the Noctua NH-U14S is an awesome cooler and handles my i7-4770K like a champ at stock and overclocked although I do not run it at 4.4Ghz except for certain times.Watch Dogs was the first game I tested the CPU with and it didn't get over 47C (I believe that number is correct.) What is correct is that for $60, I would use this cooler on any build as long as the case dimensions allow for it!
