Comparing the aftermarket one to the Motorcraft one the, the Motorcraft seemed higher quality, better wiring and connectors. My truck runs much smoother with the Motorcraft installed. It’s a pain to replace, but worth it

Genuine Ford part at a great price. What's not to like? Don't go thru all that work to install one of these, and not run a genuine Motorcraft part! I buy these because you can't get a Motorcraft sensor in any of the aftermarket or rebuilt distributors.Use a roll pin punch to remove the two roll pins. Mark the collar and the gear and the shaft with a line, so you know which way they go, because the roll pin holes are drilled after they are installed, and only go one way. Clean off the distributor shaft with emory cloth before you remove the gear, so so you don't break the gear. Thexton makes the correct gear remover and installer tool, and it's not too expensive. Otherwise, be very careful not to damage the gear! A two jaw puller will work in a pinch. Once the gear and collar are off, you should be able to gently tap out the shaft from the bottom using a brass punch. To test your existing stator on the car, you must use an LED test light hooked to battery POSITIVE. Backprobe the top wire on the ignition module connector, and touch the test light tip to the backprobe. Sewing T-pins make for great backprobes. Have someone crank the engine while you watch the test light. If it blinks while cranking, your Stator is good and not causing a no-start.If you connect a regular incandescent test light to battery ground and touch the backprobe, the coil will fire, an injector will fire, and the fuel pump will run for 1 second. If the ignition module is no good, the coil won't fire, but the injector still will, and the pump will run for a second.
