Improve the reliability of your 2003+ Toyota 4Runner 4.0L cooling system with a Nishimoto Low-Temperature Racing Thermostat and housing! This thermostat is designed as a direct-fit replacement for your aged stock unit. The Nishimoto thermostat has a lower activation temperature (71°C/160°F) compared to the factory thermostat (82°C/180°F). The lower activation temperature allows coolant to flow through the engine earlier, which reduces and maintains lower engine temperatures. This thermostat is ideal for use in warmer climates, on vehicles making more power than stock, or under extreme towing/driving conditions. I anticipated a cooler running temp in my 2004 4Runner but instead it is running hot and overheating in traffic. I flushed the radiator and added fresh coolant but still the problem persists. Is there method I could test the thermstat? My guage is accurate with a verification of operating temps from an app. My old thermostat was operating at normal temps so I thought replacing it would be an improvement.

I noticed my Toyota Prado engine temperature always showing not less than 90 degrees C even whin I replaced the thermostat with a new OEM one which as they said 83 degrees set point.Since I replaced it with Mishimoto MMTS-4RUN40-03 Racing Thermostat the temperature is 72 degrees perfectly.
