For a dollar less, you can buy the version which includes a USB-C battery charge port. Nobody should buy this version. Also, be aware that for some odd reason, this version includes a completely different programming/accessory port. If you have existing Baofeng accessories, none of them work here. I'm assuming this is because of the waterproofing and the flat sealed pin pads don't allow moisture into the unit. This is a great radio for being out of comms range, meaning that if you are in a low RF environment, these do the job. If you live in a city, or near a broadcast tower of any sort, forget it. The RX on these gets easily overloaded.Get the USB-C version instead.

This radio is deaf , firmware issues I suspect. The uv 9 pro is great. The uv 9 plus is no good. Marquette said they solve the issue was going to send me some boxes to send them back, but they have not actually sent them to me. They made it look like they solved it, but they did not. I have yet to receive the box to send it back to them and they said they were sending me. You can take with that what you want. Fact is, I’m stuck with two deaf radios.

It's just a hobby for me, but this product seems to be well made and exactly what I was looking for. I think I've had it for about a year now. I did buy another antennae just in case because I live in the mountains.

Solo recibe pero no transmite a partir de los 450.00 MHz, pésima unidad no la recomiendo, no lo compraría de nuevo no me arriesgaría a que la unidad resulte defectuosa, ya programé la devolución.

Quality is excellent fills good in hand a lot better then the UV-5R fills like a commercial radio costing over $100.Only two complaints for battery clip is lose so battery rattles and doesn’t last as long as it should after owning a BF-8HP.As for 8 watts not even close to my Quansheng 5 watt HT as you can see in photos high power is only 3.4 watts and low is half a watt.Update:Received replacement today battery fits tight we’ll see about lasting as long as the BF-8HP battery as for power still not 8 watts but it is dead on 5 watts like my Yaesu if I would have paid full price it would go back but on a deal price plus coupon I’ll keep it like I said it is a nice radio and will reach the repeaters.UPDATE: 10/2/20, everything working excellent battery life is as it should be new replacement radio only problem is volume knob has a tight spot around where I set it might remove knob to see if it’s just crowded of just leave it be it’ll loosen up. Very nice Chinese radio.

The radio feels like it’s built solid! Was easy to program by hand and on the pc using Chirp. I have a few other higher end HT radio but none are waterproof. I thought for the price, this is a great radio to take out on the water and in wet conditions. The one thing I wish the radio had is a V/M button rather than the silly method of turning the radio off and on while holding the menu button. All the high technology out there and the manufacturer missed this is simply hard to understand. Still like the radio though!

A great solid built and affordable "kick-around" radio. I had reservations on purchasing this radio, but several friends commented positively about Baofeng radios affordability and the ability to make connections. I cant speak on the waterproof aspect but they are solid built. Didnt purchase the programming cable because I wanted to do it manually. Friends said these radios were very hard to program but I found them just as easy as the Yaesu. Just remember that you need the Recieve Freq, the Offset, Offset direction and tone if needed. Write down the Menu sequence to get these and its a snap. I can hit repeaters out as far as 40 plus miles with no problem with the stock antenna. 70cm seems to make connections better than 2M bands...probably an antenna upgrade could fix that. I currently own another HT, a Yaesu FT60R, which is an excellent radio and I purchased the 2 Baofeng UV9R Plus just to use as backups, BUT I have no problem grabbing the UV9R first. I kinda hate to admit it.

I’ve owned expensive Yaesu and Kenwood handheld radios. I own many Baofeng radios as backups since they are so inexpensive. When I bought my Yaesu VX-8DR for about $400 a few years back my primary justification for that radio was that it was waterproof and it had an APRS modem. At the time it was the cheapest radio I could find that was waterproof. Now Baofeng has this UV-9R for $75. With recent promotion it was $60 so it was a great deal. Baofeng makes a cable for their other radios that allows you to use your phone with the radio for APRS functionality. It’s more bulky than having a radio with a built in APRS modem, but now it’s too hard for me to justify having a $300+ radio just to have a built in APRS modem. This radio is probably going to be my new go to radio instead of my current Kenwood TH-D74. As a emergency prepper I like how Baofeng radios don’t block frequencies that aren’t HAM frequencies. The rules are you can transmit on any frequency you want to in an emergency. The only exception is not to use navigational frequencies for any reason. So in an emergency I would like to transmit on the FRS and GMRS frequencies. My expensive Kenwood and Yaesu radios block these frequencies so they could be useless in an actual emergency situation. For that reason I’m considering selling my Kenwood and just use this new Baofeng instead. My one complaint about this radio is there is currently not a way to use the APRS cable with this radio. This radio uses a new headset/mic adapter form factor which allows it to be waterproof. I get it, but they do make an adapter for this radio to make it work with the old 2 pin headset mic form factor but the adapter pin spacing is too small so it doesn’t work. I really hope Baofeng makes a specific APRS adapter for this radio. Or at least working adapter for the old form factor. Until then I’ll probably 3D print and design my own.
