About this item

  • Brightest, most compact light for GoPro Hero cameras
  • 600 Lumen flood and 400 Lumen spot beam Certified to the FL-1 standard
  • Innovative dual beam modes with multiple power settings, 1-6 hour runtime
  • Factory-sealed design with external charge interface (USB) for flood-free reliability; depth rated to 60m (196ft)

The Light & Motion Sidekick Duo brings new levels of possibility to the action camera market - transform dismal low light footage into something extraordinary. Designed to seamlessly integrate with GoPro Hero camera housings, the 600 Lumen light will illuminate all of your night adventures on land or underwater. Waterproof to 60 meters (196ft), scuba divers love its ability to light up a reef bringing out the true colors of the underwater world (dive arm kit recommended). robust construction is tested to withstand multiple impacts up to 1 meter on concrete - meaning that evening trail ride or skateboard session will not be compromised by light durability. The Duo model features both a spot and flood beam that can be toggled with a quick touch. Keep the light on wide to light up a full scene or spot if a subject needs to be isolated. High, med, and low settings give a runtime of 1-6 hours and output is regulated so power will remain constant and not dim - a critical feature when filming. A colored indicator displays battery and charge status. The light is quickly recharged in 4.25 hours through an external interface with included USB cable. Note: Extender bolt works seamlessly with GoPro Hero 1-4 Housings. The Hero 5 will need a GoPro - GoPro mount extension.

Screw extension not long enough to work with GoPro Hero 9 protective housing. Definitely need the extension arm kit to make it work. Looks like a great light but I will need to order the extension to find out.

do not buy this light. it lasts MAYBE 1-2 minutes. Talked with many divers on the liveaboard and they all had the same feedback.

Unfortunately, even 99.999% reliability means someone gets a lemon I guess. I was pleased with the features of the light, light output and how it assembled with my GoPro. Mine failed though on the first dive, which was to 65ft, we’ll within what the light is rated for. The light suddenly dimmed (but did not go out) and buttons became unresponsive. The light continued to be on dimly for at least half an hour, later I could see a yellow tinge in the LED area confirming it leaked. I have dive buddies who were along and very surprised, saying they have multiple light & motion products and have never had a problem.

Ok....I purchased this for my iPro 3+ and purchase is strictly for diving. We just returned from a week at CoCo View in Roatan and all I can say is “Wow”. I looked at others but like the way it attaches directly to the camera mount on the side and not an attachment on the bottom with the camera attaching to the top. Very secure feeling and easy to turn on and off underwater...like the way the charger attaches without having to deal with a battery pack...unit is totaled sealed. Light performs well underwater but best with both LED’s turned on...over the past week I used this on three to four dives a day with no issues. Other dive buddies in the group were very impressed with the volume and brightness of the light underwater....enabled me to take great photos in very low light conditions with most photos taken between 30 to 40 feet depth. Initially used a Red filter but took it off after the redness of the photos was too much...worked best for me with no filter. Overall very high praise for this product with a few photos attached that I took the week of 9 September 2017 when in Roatan.

Gave this three stars cause i havnt used it yet. I'll update the review if necessary. I'm here to tell you this does work with HERO 5. No arm attachment necessary. Light in motion and gopro couldn't definitively tell me if they were compatible but i can. Photo shows the scuba suit for hero 5 and a generic floaty also bought on amazon. Im a bit worried that less that a 1/2" of the screw actually goes into the lights housing but thats how everyone's own looks on youtube so i gues its legit. Ah so all i can say about my purchase is that it works. And about this product in general... you wont need any filters for your gopro if u use this light. Would hv given full stars if I actually went diving with it. But BEWARE i could not get the extended screw to work with any of the mounts that came with my hero5 the nut at the end has changed and it seems as if it cant be remove (as was possible in older mounts) so i cant use the light with my GoPro 3-Way nor the mounts that came with it (see images).

This light is a wonderful underwater video light, I love the ability to change the intensity of the beam and the wide angle of the beam itself is fantastic for GoPro's wide angle filming. The only con to this light is that it is such an odd shape...it's perfect for attaching directly to the GoPro housing, but since I use it underwater I need my light source to be further away from the lens to avoid backscatter and so have to mount it with my regular camera strobe. I found a way to work it out because I really love the light itself.Would be five stars for me if the body was a different shape and easier to adapt to different attachments (not just for GoPro), but as far as quality of the light, totally amazing and worth the money paid. This light works as well or better than other underwater video lights on the market for twice or three-times the price point!!

The Gopro is a poor low light camera. After looking at a few thousand blurry photos caused by low lighting, I decided to purchase a light. Since I use the Gopro mostly to make iNaturalist submissions of marine creatures I photograph while freediving I wanted a light that can be mounted at the end of a selfie stick. The only real competition with the sidekick for this application is the Knog [qudos] ACTION Video Light for GoPro and the SeaLife Sea Dragon Mini 600 Underwater LED Light which mounts to a Sealife Aquapod. The Knog lacks a dive arm, making backscatter a worse issue. The Sea Dragon Mini is probably a good choice, but would have required me to buy a new selfie stick. After my first trip with this light, I am reasonably happy. It still isn't enough light to solve the problem that most of my pictures come out blurry. To do this though I likely need tens of thousands of lumens. The most noticeable advantage of this light is that previously I had a real problem getting pictures of animals in crevices, with this light many of those photos turn out well. There are however some downsides:Even on flood mode, the light does not fill the field of view. This leaves the edges of photos dark. Also, it might require you to mess with your EV settings to get good photographs otherwise it may saturate in the center if the edges are too dark. The controls are too complicated. All I want to do is leave it in high power flood mode, then turn it off and on a lot since I am only photographing for about a minute at a time and want to conserve the battery. There are two buttons, the correct design would be one button turns it on and off, and the other toggles through the settings. I would simply pick the setting I wanted, then all I would have to do is turn it off and on depending on it to remember the previous setting. Instead I must press one button three times to turn it on and get it into the mode I want, then hold down both buttons to turn it off. That is five button presses for what should only be two. A minor difference perhaps, but wearing gloves in cold water it is a real difference. The charging cable is unique. If you lose it, you are in bad shape. This is a huge downside if you plan to only use this light on land. However, in the water the inconvenience of a proprietary charger is cancelled out by the convenience of it staying sealed. Keeping it permanently sealed dramatically decreases the chances you will flood the light. The hardware doesn't seem as high quality as what came with the Gopro. It might be my imagination, but the Gopro seems much more loose than it was on the mounts. It often gets knocked out of position. This is a minor annoyance, but if it gets worse with age may grow into a bigger issue. If you are really serious about underwater photography, you probably need to spend $1500 on a lighting rig. It will take that much light for the Gopro to consistently catch good video or photos. The Sidekick is just a minor boost to your capabilities, letting you get a photo in a few situations you otherwise couldn't.
