These Kratky method hydroponic planters make getting started with hydroponic growing easy! This is actually my second set of this style of planter. I keep lettuce growing in my current set, and for these I plan to expand my little hydroponic kitchen garden and try some herbs and micro tomatoes. This set comes with eight colored pots, eight lids with holes for the grow sponges, two bags of sponges, and a growing guide. The planters are great quality and not flimsy or cheap feeling. I do think the colors are more vibrant in person than in the listing photo. The sponges hold up well through soaking and growing, and I have had no issues with mold or algae. Now this set is not a complete hydroponic kit. You get the sponges and planters, but to actually get growing you need some things that are not included in this set: seeds, nutrients, and an optional but highly recommended grow light. With these being pretty small pots I would recommend only planting herbs, leafy greens, and micro or dwarf varieties of fruiting plants. Hydroponic nutrients are necessary to add to the water to feed the plants once your seeds have germinated, and as the plants get established you have to lift the lid to check the water level every now and then and top it off. Even a small variety of lettuce will develop a crazy root system and drink up a lot of the water and nutrients. Lastly, I really do recommend a grow light (ideally on a timer) instead of just putting the pots on a windowsill. Keep the light within about 2" of the top of the plant while it is small and then gradually raise it up. I have had great success with these pots and the Kratky method, so they are definitely five out of five stars for me.
