3.5 hours. THREE POINT FIVE HOURS. I'm glad I have a rule of all "assembly required" toys being assembled before Christmas day so I'm not spending hours upon stacked hours with tools and a child crawling all over me. Christmas was a Tuesday this year... so Sunday while my son was at Grandma's I decided to "put the toy together while listening to some Christmas music."Christmas music turned into Disturbed and Linkin Park as I struggled, slammed a beer, huffed, puffed, swore and nearly gave up a few times until the end was finally in sight.I'm not a handy person, by any means. But I've assembled beds that took less time and frustration than this damn toy took. The instructions are ridiculous. By the second level, as per the instructions, I had the entire [heavy] toy upside down on my lap as I attempted to fit a screw driver that was too small on the screwing end to screw in things I could have screwed in before the second level was screwed on. Does that sentence make any sense? It makes about as much sense as the instructions did. They're bloody awful.I smartened up by the third level but the only thing I had to screw in there was the yellow and black thing you see in the picture.By the end I was thinking hard before I screwed anything down. I did the second ramp before they told me to and I'm glad I did, I remember thinking that. There's about fifty screws that go in to this thing and believe me when I tell you, you assemble everything from the elevator lift to the ramps. I'm surprised they didn't make me assemble the cars.NOW. That being said, this is my son's favorite toy. I noticed a review after I'd purchased the garage detailing the cars flying off of the ramp. I haven't had an issue so far. My son went as far as to throw the "gas station" [which, isn't screwed down nor is it supposed to be.] and it stayed in tact. We'll see how it fares up. I'll happily post updates if anything comes up so you can make an informed decision.. but so far, I'm entirely happy I got this for my son. A list of toys he got for Christmas include: Buzz, Woody, a Space Rocket, puzzles, magnets, a train table and set and a WoWWee Roboquad Robot! I am happy to report that my son, although happy with his other gifts, played with this garage set the most. I'm really happy with it, regardless of how long it took me to set up.I would also like to note that through my entire screwing, huffing, puffing and growling process only one piece of wood cracked and that was because I had stripped the screw putting the end on the turny bit for the garage door, that you can lift up, and needed to rip it out manually. So that was MY fault.I put as much of it as I could together using a small power drill I have... and although I was careful, I think I over tightened in a few places and the wood held up. So I'm content.Lastly, this toy is damn cool and definitely deluxe. My son LOVES the ramp [for good reason, I purchased this toy as a near replica of one I used to play with as a child... it also had a swirly ramp and an elevator lift.] and at 2.5 years old he figured out how to use the elevator no problem, with no help. He finds it fairly easy and absolutely loves it.I love it, he loves it... It took forever to get the stupid thing together... but it's his favorite toy and who can blame him?Do not follow the instructions to a T. Think before you act. You'll regret it if you don't.

I typically love kidcraft toys, they are well made and fairly easy to assemble. Same went for the Deluxe toy garage... at least for the first 10 or so steps of assembly. The reason we purchased this particular garage is because I have 2 boys (1 and 3 1/2) and they are hard on toys, I wanted something exceptionally durable. We played with this toy at our cousins at it seemed to fit the bill. The individual levels are heavy duty material, it fits most types of cars pretty well and it withstood the beating of 5 kids 5 yrs and under for a week. The problems that I encountered with this garage are mostly with the elevator, it is poorly designed. There are 3 sizes of screws used in the assmembly, along with wooden dowels. The screws are made out of cheap metal and strip quickly, so quickly that I had to use screws out of our own tool box to finish the assembly. The dowel assembly for the elevator never went together correctly and with an impatient 3 year old waiting to play, I finally cobbled it together and will have to come up with something better in the long run.I will keep the garage because overall (outside of the elevator which frustrates my 3 year old to no end) it is a great garage that holds up to tremendous abuse, but beware if you are purchasing it, watch out for the elevator...

This quality toy was bought last Christmas for our two year old son, since then he has had a sister who also enjoys playing with, confirming it's great for two play. Considering how much they lean on, bash, tug at it, and er..play with it it has held up extremely well. he lift is a constant draw as is the helicopter.Took the strategic decision not to put all the items that come with it at once, as there was enough to keep our son occupied, movable things such as garage pump are probably best left till children are 3+.Negatives are that the spiral ramps that lead cars down from each level dont screw in easily and I had to glue on one the ramps after my son repeatedly used it as an arm rest, that said, it has held up for a whole year. The second negative is the car doesnt have good balance, so they dont roll down the ramps easily, that said, you will come across other cars that you can use with this garage.

This was one of our 'big' gifts for our soon to be 3-year old son. He is totally into cars... mainly Disney pixar cars but has a few matchbox ones around as well. As others have stated, it really isn't made for those die-casts as they do not fit in the elevator and car wash. He always places his die-casts on top of the elevator. Another con for us but could be a pro for others is the car wash, entry gate and fill station are loose pieces. There are no pegs or anything else holding them down.Having said both of those cons, there are a lot of pros to this.Quality wood build, great graphics, more to do than your standard garage set, nice size for toddler and depending on your purchase price (we paid $65) a great deal!It was fairly easy to build with no decals as everything is painted on the pieces. Give yourself about an hour to build it and you are...vroom! ready to go!
