I’ve been pricing cover stitch machines for a while and this one fits the bill for price and functionality. There’s a bit of a learning curve compared to a serger but very similar. I will get a lot of use out of this little gem when I’m working with those fussy knits!

Not gonna lie, there is a learning curve with this coverstitch machine. It arrives threaded and will sew on woven cotton like muslin straight out of the box. Get yourself a yard of fabric (woven AND knit) and play around for a few days before making a garment because it takes practice to avoid the dreaded skipped stitches - especially on slinky knits. But once you get the settings right for your fabric, this Janome makes beautiful hems and bindings (with optional attachment that I'm loving!) It is easy to thread and simple to remove your work once you learn to pull threads forward and cut before removing from under the presser foot. There are some good youtube videos to teach you how to use it, but mostly you'll want to practice, practice, practice. I'm an experience sewist, serger and machine emboiderer but I'm still learning to master this new machine. Totally worth it though! My hems and bindings are sturdy and stretchy.
