I own a electrical company, I was using it to drive ground rods in sand and it broke in two. I take very good care of my tools and I only drove about 30 rods with it. It shattered pieces came off and hit me and cut my hand and face. It came apart where the shaft comes down to the collar. The one side is sheared and the other side was never welded together it still had a perfect machine edge where it was broken.

The Irwin Ground Rod Driver for SDS Max works good. I gave it four stars because it was advertised as being 3/4x10 1/4".

I bought this to drive two 5/8" x 8' ground rods. I live in the Pacific Northwest and I have extremely rocky soil and some hard clay-like stuff. I rented a rotary hammer drill at a big home improvement chain store (that takes SDS-Max bits, I brought this in to make sure I got the right tool). The first one went in in about 15 minutes. It got stuck twice but after a few sledge hammer blows the hammer drill was able to continue. The second one went in about 4 feet and then the hammer drill couldn't make any more progress so I drove the rest by hand. I think this was worth it because driving 8' long wobbly ground rods with a sledge hammer from a ladder isn't fun. But don't expect any miracles.

I needed an SDS Max driver bit to pound rebar into log walls. I tried making my own but that became a welders nightmare! This bit has about a 3" throat on it so the rebar would stick out that far causing me to have to sledge the remainder in. Not a biggy if you're doing one or two but a whole house? So I used a chop saw and cut it down so only an inch was left after pounding it in. Worked perfect! This is a forged bit not a 2 piece. Very sturdy!
