I have a few Govee products and was excited to try this refrigerator/freezer thermometer. It does not disappoint. It's simple to set up: first, set up the part that plugs into the electrical socket (the gateway) with your WiFi info, then pull the tab out of the thermometer, pair it to the gateway with a single press of a button, and add it to the Govee app (the app walks you through the couple of simple steps to do this). Easy, especially since I already had the app and am mostly used to using it. Just follow the included set up instructions and you shouldn't have a problem. At first the app didn't find my wifi for some reason, but I just tried again and it connected easily. The Govee app is a bit different than most apps that I use, but it's not bad.. and it controls a lot of devices so I'm not complaining on that. Getting used to the app, to me, is the hardest part of setting up any Govee product (and it's really not that hard). Once you figure it out (like remembering to tap the little check mark to save whatever you've set up), every Govee device I've used works great via the app.If you don't set up the gateway you won't get alerts on your phone, you'd just get an audible alarm and would have to be home to hear that.Paired with the gateway the thermometer(s) alert you via the app on your phone if the temp exceeds whatever temp alert you've set. You can set an alert for a range of high/low temps or a specific temp; I set mine to alert me if the temp exceeds 32F for more than 15 minutes - you can set a period of time (in my case I set it to 15 min.) for it to ignore a temp drop (for instance, if you're holding the door open for a few minutes you won't get an alert/alarm). Nice feature. The thermometer sticks magnetically to the side of the freezer/fridge, and the thin, flat cord with the probe on the end goes into the freezer and the door easily shuts on it with no gap or issues. You can also hang them with the included lanyard, or just set them on top of the appliance if you want.My newest refrigerator works with the Smart Things app, but my big freezer and a second older refrigerator do not have any 'tech', so being able to monitor these older appliances if I'm out of town is really nice. If you've ever come home to the awful mess of a thawed freezer, this will be the best $20 you've ever spent.I can't say how accurate the thermometer is, but it's certainly within a few degrees of the manual thermometer that I compared it to. For my use, I don't need to know the exact temp inside the unit (which is actually displayed in the app and updated every few minutes, apparently), I just need to know that it's below freezing in the freezer and below 40F in the refrigerator, and these devices are perfect for this.I haven't had an appliance fail (fortunately) or an alarm go off, *however* I did test the device by holding the freezer door open while looking at the app on my phone. The temp dropped **in real time** on my app, going from 2F to 10F in less than 30 seconds, so I'm pretty impressed by that. I didn't leave the door open for 15 minutes to see if I would get an alarm, but my other Govee products (tower fan, air cleaner, lights) have all worked well with no issues, so I'm hopeful this device will be the same.I'm sure there's a host of other ways you can use the thermometer, perhaps to monitor a pool, a room where your pets are, etc., so it's not just limited to a refrigerator/freezer.For a cost of ~$20 per thermometer, you really can't go wrong with this purchase.

As you can see from the photo, this sensor comes with a lot of parts. It leads to questions: what are the wires for? what do they plug into? The answer to both questions is "nothing". The wires do nothing and they plug into nothing. But it works great. The sensors, which come with batteries supplied, simply are placed, one in the freezer and one in the fridge and they connect wirelessly to the control unit, which you plug into a wall outlet nearby. The app (required) is easy to install and operate. The units track temperature and provide graphs of hourly, daily, weekly and monthly temperatures. But the instructions don't explain any of this. The unit works great and is helping me to track the dodgy performance of my freezer. It could just use better instructions.

I've been very happy with this temp monitor so far. It was super easy to set up - some "smart" devices have trouble connecting or staying connected to my wifi, but this one hasn't given me any trouble. The app was easy to configure as well and the probes and gateway all work together smoothly. It allows you to set up alarms based on temperature and specify how/when those come through. There are three different ways to put the probes in your fridge/freezer: attach with a lanyard, use the attached magnet, or use the included adhesive to affix it to a flat surface. I've only used the lanyard so far, so I can't speak to how well the adhesive works. (My fridge/freezer aren't magnetic inside, so I haven't been able to test that one.) Most importantly, the probes are accurate to within a couple of degrees of the temp I have the fridge/freezer set.The only thing I'd change is the option for an alarm on either the gateway or from the probes themselves. Having it connected to my phone is great, but if I'm not home or don't have my phone it would be nice for whoever is in the house to know that something is wrong. That's just a nice-to-have, though. The product as it is is great.

I have a refrigerator and a deep freezer in my garage. Every blue moon, I'll have a random breaker trip there because of a thunderstorm or power surge anomaly. This, in turn, causes one or both of these devices to shut off. If left too long, the temperature rises above the safety zone and the food contained within needs to be discarded. I purchases a bluetooth wireless temperature gauge to measure the temperature within these devices, but the downside is that I have to be home to be able to hear the alarm on the remote display. That's where this GoveeLife remote wireless temperature gauge shines! I have replace my old bluetooth unit with this one and am so glad that I did! Now, whenever my refrigerator or deep freezer lose power (or the door remains open) and the temperature drops, I instantly receive a notification on my phone and an e-mail to let me know that the temperature has surpassed my custom temperature setpoint. Setup was a breeze and the kit includes all the necessary gizmos and attachment tape to get the probes mounted. Highly recommended, especially for Amazon's low listed selling price.
