This mini flash is incredibly small and light, easily slipping into a pocket or resting on the camera without adding bulk. Compatibility requires checking your hot shoe for a single contact, and it's important to note it doesn't work with some specific Canon, Sony, and Fuji models.Operating as a manual flash with five power levels means you'll need to experiment or use a light meter to get the right exposure, as there's no automatic TTL function. Despite its size, it provides a surprising amount of light. The built-in rechargeable battery is convenient with USB-C charging, delivering hundreds of flashes on a single charge, though the recycle time feels a bit slow at times.Be aware that using larger lenses or hoods can result in shadows. It also lacks a tilting head for bounce flash. Considering its low price, it offers solid value for its portability and manual control capabilities.Overall, this is a handy, compact flash providing manual control and surprising power for its size and cost.

I have an older Fuji X-E2S and a little pancake lens that I use when I don't want to drag out my R6 Mk2 and heavy glass. Having a little camera is great, but the built-in flash is a little whimpy.I am familiar with the Godox brand (my friend, a successful wedding photographer, swears by them) - so I decided to give this little flash a try. Don't let its diminutive stature fool you, this works surprisingly well.Let's be clear: this doesn't have all the features of a full-sized "professional-grade" flash - there is no exposure through the lens. As a result, you'll have to fiddle around with your camera's exposure compensation and the power level on the flash - but once you get a feel for this, I think you'll be quite pleased with the results. Punchy, contrast-y photos are "in" right now, and these flash can really help deliver the look without having to worry about the bulk of a full-sized flash.I'm also pleased to report that, electronically-speaking, it is well-designed. It has no issues charging with a USB-A to USB-C cable or (more importantly) a USB-C to USB-C cable - it "just works" with the USB-C ecosystem, as it should. It includes a small microfiber storage pouch, which is perfect for the flash and a short USB-C charging cable (6in-12in) - but not much else. For a small flash, I think that was the right idea.Overall, I think Godox has a winner on their hands with this affordable, compact flash.

EDC is a pretty popular term used nowadays for items to carry with you on the go on the regular. For the photographer that has a EDC camera without a built in flash or an inadequate one, this is the EDC flash to accompany it.I carry my Ricoh GR3 with me for street/ candid-life photography in the big city with me and Godox' iM22 is the perfect partner for it. The GR3 does not have a built in flash and night time and low-light photography has always been a struggle for it. Not anymore with the iM22. It is more than powerful for amateur and on-the-go use. What I really appreciate is it is simple and easy to use. While it is not a full featured (or sized) flash, it gives you all you need without overcomplicating things when the user just wants some illumination on the go.

This flash is kind of like a pop-up flash that used to appear on compact cameras except for more powerful now. It stands up taller than those smaller "cel phone" flash type usits and can be dialed back. That is to say there is a little readout on the back panel of the flash (dots that indicate brightness) so you can dial down the flash to avoid over-exposure. The good thing about this flash is that it is rechargeable so no need to find or lug batteries around, and it worked with all four of my camera systems: FujiFilm, Leica Q, Canon, and vintage Olympus. It takes its cues from the center of a hot shoe, so as long as your camera has one of those, it will fire the flash dumbly. That is to say, you will not get TTL or anything advanced like that, just good old fashioned dialing down the power from the back panel. The good news is that lower output means a longer battery and faster recharge (which is sort of slow to tell the truth). But the benefit is less red-eye with a slightly taller flash and being able to keep the flash in a small pocket or oven on a keychain. Godox is know for their lighting and this is no exception, just another workable product for less money!

⭐⭐⭐⭐½ (4.5/5 stars)Remember those bulky camera flashes that felt like you were carrying a brick? The Godox iM22 turns that notion on its head. At just 34 grams (about the weight of a golf ball), this miniature marvel has completely changed my perspective on what a portable flash can be.First impressions are almost comical – it's so small you might wonder if it can actually do the job. But don't let its diminutive size fool you. This flash packs a surprising punch, offering five power levels that give you plenty of creative control over your lighting. The built-in lithium battery delivers up to 440 full-power flashes per charge, which is remarkably generous for such a compact unit. What really shines about the iM22 is its simplicity. There's no complicated menu system to navigate – just straightforward power adjustments that make it perfect for both beginners and seasoned photographers who want a no-fuss solution. The recycle time is impressively quick at 3 seconds, ensuring you won't miss those spontaneous moments. The universal hot shoe mount is a thoughtful touch, making it compatible with major camera brands including Canon, Sony, Fuji, Nikon, Panasonic, and Olympus. I've tested it across different camera bodies, and the connection is always solid and reliable. There are a few trade-offs, of course. Being a manual flash means there's no TTL (Through The Lens) metering, so you'll need to adjust the power yourself. The light can be a bit harsh without modification, but that's typical for most direct flash units.Pros:Incredibly lightweight and portableImpressive 440 full-power flashes per chargeQuick 3-second recycle timeUniversal compatibilitySimple, intuitive controlsBuilt-in rechargeable batteryCons:Manual-only operation (no TTL)Limited power compared to full-size flashesBasic feature setAt around $49, the Godox iM22 represents exceptional value for money. It's perfect for travel photography, street shooting, or as a backup flash. While it won't replace your professional strobes for studio work, it's an incredibly capable tool that proves good things really do come in small packages. If you've been looking for a reliable, ultra-portable flash that won't weigh you down or break the bank, the Godox iM22 deserves a spot in your camera bag. It's a reminder that sometimes the best photographic tools are the ones you'll actually carry with you.

I'm going to admit I wasn't sure about this flash at first but very soon after a little hands on use, I became a fan. This flash has a slight retro vibes with a small and simplistic form factor with a single pin to trigger the flash. The flash itself has five levels of brightness with no real measured value of what each level delivers as far as a guide number or power like a traditional flash might have. This leads to a more experimental method using a digital camera which is pretty easy to do. Shoot, look, adjust if needed. If you plan to use this older film cameras, which is what I'm doing, pulling out the old trusty light meter is the answer to your questions.Overall, the flash produces a LOT more light than you might imagine and really is powerful for its size. Because its so small, it travels easily and comes with a nice pouch to tuck into your bag. I'm likely going to put a light meter with it and work it that way. I've been very happy with this flash. If you need simple and light weight, easy to travel with, this could be your answer.

This tiny Godox iM22 flash brings back the fun of the good old days. The iM22 has an internal rechargeable battery, included in the package are a storage pouch and a USB charging cord. There are 3 buttons on the iM22: ON/OFF also doubles as a test flash button, "+" and "-" button for controlling 5 levels of flash output intensity. There is a 5 bar LED status light to indicate the level selected, also serves as a charging status indicator.I put the iM22 on the hot shoe of my Sony A7R4 mirrorless digital camera with the following settings:- turned off the electronic silent shutter and switch to mechanical shutter- select ISO 800 or higher, select flash colour temperature for indoor photography or select AUTO colour temperature for outdoor fill light photography- set the camera in manual shooting mode with f-stop 5.6, shutter speed 1/160 (sync speed of my camera)- select level 2 or 3 with the +/- button for subject within 10' distanceI got a beautifully exposed picture. The iM22 recycled quickly within 1 second and I can shoot a series photos by varying the f-stop (bracket shooting) for the optimum exposure without waiting long for the iM22 to be ready, so much fun. To shoot subjects within 20' is possible by increasing the ISO and decreasing the f-stop.Pros:- Light weight, only 34g- Long lasting battery- Easy to use power ratio shooting with the +/- buttons- High quality plastic housing- Works faultlessly on modern digital cameras (using settings I listed above)Cons:- iM22 colour temperature is Day Light White, if using this flash as a fill light for indoor portrait, there is a slight bluish tint on the skin tone.- iM22 is only 47mm above the camera's hot shoe, shooting with a long lens with lens hood will cast a shadow of the lens on the photo. Shoot without a lens hood or with a shorter portrait lens is recommended.- There is no tilt control on the flash head for bounce flash light to the ceiling for a more defused lighting effect.- Red eye could be present in portrait shooting.- Direct flash light from iM22 will cast a sharp shadow behind subjectThis tiny iM22 flash light is best used as a fill light for portrait photography, not as a main lighting source. I highly recommend this iM22 for the portrait photographer.
