Basically, the black color is paint, and it chips off pretty easily. I didn’t expect it to last forever, but I expected it to last longer than a month. The paint is even chipping around the swivel… It wasn’t very expensive, but, overall, I am a little disappointed.

I am a scuba diver up in the Pacific Northwest, and I typically buy bolt snaps from the big box stores. If you are a scuba diver, you know that scuba diving shops charge way too much markup for things. Anyone can pick up a can of salt resistant Coating and coat bolt snaps. You can also dive with them uncoded and just throw them away more often. It’s not the bolt snap, but rather the spring that tends to go first. Coded bolt snaps last significantly longer but tend to cost more. They cost a lot less Than your local dive shop and this one’s been holding up fine. I meant to take a picture of it but there’s no corrosion yet. my BCD is in getting checked out and I left it on. This is a great bolt snap though. I will be ordering a lot more.

Good for tethering gear for diving. I have an little concern for the durability as its a little thinner than expected. It will fit on a D ring for your BCD but it not the large over size your would see at your dive shop. This will work but it will require a bit more attention to make sure you get it connected or use your chest D rings. Your waist Rings you could miss. This will be used for my backup light which I tether to my waist for low viz dives. Time will reveal the durability. It will also work for non diving and might be better suited. Its a nice swivel hook that could work for many things. Let see how it holds up to salt water normally you want a chrome or brass corrosion.Easy to use for keys or anything else you wish to tether.
