My 99 Explorer latch stopped locking and unlocking due to an internal spring that fails. Took about 20-30 minutes to pop off the door panel and replace it with this. Works perfectly for over a year.

Changed out the drivers side door lock assembly, as well as the power lock ( A-Premium Door Lock Actuator Motor Replacement for Ford Explorer Sport Trac 2004-2005 Crown Victoria Lincoln Town Car Mercury Grand Marquis 【Reference Number】4L2Z78218A42AA, 746-187 ) on my 2004 Ford Sport Trac which was working intermittently. Better to change out both when your doing all this work inside the door. Thanks to You Tube videos I took my time and got it done. Works perfectly now. Also changed out the old thick grease on the window actuator tracks & slides to Synthetic grease. Window works much faster now, up here in the Frozen North! The lock assembly and the door lock actuator I got from AMAZON!

Attached is the latch assembly I received. The latch assembly shown on your web page shows the bolt patterns and spring are opposite. the figure has spring and single bolt opening on right. these are on the left. Fig. 1 is for Right side (passenger) door. Figure 2 is for left side (driver) door. Both have the same part number but obviously will not work.

But. This definitely fits my 2003 Ford Explorer Sport. Just like the Dorman website as well as AutoZone said it should. It seems to work great, and I'm sure it would if it was installed properly. I've seen other reviews stating that installing this was a PITA, and they are not wrong. We struggled to remove the faulty Lock Assembly and in our frustration couldn't remember what went where. So when we tried to install this, we had to do a lot of trial and error to connect it back up, and we didn't do it quite right(We're pretty sure we don't have the key lock connected properly), but we did it well enough to lock and unlock as well as to open the door with the inside and outside handles. Took us about 3 hours.If it wasn't for my brother who wanted to figure it out, I would have given up and taken it to a mechanic or body shop or find the appropriate professional that would install this for me. I would not recommend doing this yourself.

Purchased this for a 98 Ford explorer. I figured it probably wouldn't fit, you know some hole off just a little or something like that since I was buying it online. However, to my surprise it fit perfectly, identical to the factory latch that I was replacing. I was very surprised and very happy. I would recommend this company in the future for door products.Two suggestions, when buying this, go ahead and get the little bag of plastic clips and some door panel push in clips to replace the ones that broke when you took the panel off.
