This is a very usable upgrade over the previous generation of radios. The USB-C charging is also amazing!

They work great. A little hard to program channels. Use the instructions or ask a friend

I've been a user of the UV-5R for a while now. This radio will do everything that radio will, but it has a larger and color screen, 10W of power (vs 5W on the standard UV-5R), USB-C battery charging, etc.Out of the box mine would TX on both HAM and GMRS. I had to "reset" my UV-5R to get this functionality. Maybe I got lucky or perhaps all 5RM's are like this...I'm not sure. If not, search out how to do it.Only drawback is that the radio itself is larger and a bit more expensive, but it's not too large to where it's a burden to carry. And let's be honest, all of these Baofeng radios are an absolute bargain for what they can do.This is a nice basic bundle that includes two radios, a couple of antennas, base charger, etc. For about $55 you really cannot beat it.If you're unsure what radio to get, search out some videos online as there are plenty going over this radio and comparing it to others. The 5RM is one of my favorite Baofengs made today.

Great price! A must have for multiple uses by Ham radio Operators, like comms in vacation spots, on a hiking trail; or at home scanning frequencies and doing comms with other Hams. Easy on the eyes, simple to use, and simple to program. Excellent radio for a disaster preparedness kit!. You’ll be Satisfied with this purchase!

Only in USA, 222 MHz is use for Amateur Band. For 2 Meter & 440's bands is legal in most countries for Amateur Bands.

This is a lot of bang for the buck, especially when you factor in the price of the extra batteries. it picks up a lot of different bands & seems to transmit on all but the AM air band or NOAA weather band.If you program in a noaa frequency in VFO mode, it CAN transmit on that frequency, so be careful not to do that. There are a few other things to watch. The lithium battery runs up to higher than normal voltage when charged from the USB port. I registered 8.5 volts on the radio & the charge light was still red. Usually they cut off and give you a green light at 8.3v on my other Baofengs. If you are going to plug in a programming cable or an external mic/speaker. Turn the radio off before inserting or removing the K1 plug. Otherwise you will likely blow out the internal speaker. I did that on 2 older ones before I figured out what was causing the problem. This thing is kind of a lot of radio for a handy talkie. Output power is about double what a garden variety UV5R puts out. The complexity of the frequency range might be a little much for a new guy, but experienced operators will find that it gives them a lot to play with. This is a HAM radio & requires a ham license if you want to transmit with it.

I really like the larger display, larger memory, larger battery, nearly 10 watts transmit and easy to program with Chirp. If you have used a UV-5R you should have no problem using the RM versions.
