About this item

  • Professional stereo microscope with boom stand has long working distance to enable users to perform work or manipulate large items, including circuit boards and dental appliances
  • Binocular viewing head with pair of 10x super-widefield eyepieces, adjustable interpupillary distance, fixed 45-degree vertical inclination to reduce eye and neck strain, and 360-degree rotation capability to enable sharing
  • 0.7x-4.5x zoom objective provides continuous zoom magnification and longer focal length for inspecting large-scale specimens, a 0.5x Barlow lens extends the working distance, and a 2.0x Barlow lens extends the magnification range
  • Removable rheostat-controlled 80-bulb LED ring light provides intensity control and bright, cool light for working with temperature-sensitive or live specimens
  • Double-arm boom stand has 20" arms and 17" pillar to enable users to position the microscope head on three axes (X, Y, and Z)

The AmScope SM-4BZ-80S professional stereo zoom microscope has a pair of 10x super-widefield high-eyepoint eyepieces, a 0.7x-4.5x zoom objective, two Barlow lenses, and a double-arm boom stand. The microscope has an overall magnification range of 3.5x-90x. The binocular viewing head has an interpupillary range of 55 to 75mm, a 45-degree inclination to reduce eye and neck strain, and 360-degree rotation to enable sharing. The WH10x20mm super-widefield high-eyepoint eyepieces combine with the 0.7x-4.5x zoom objective to provide continuous zoom magnification and a longer working distance for inspecting large-scale specimens that require handling or repair. The microscope comes with 0.5x and 2.0x Barlow lenses that can be added to the objective to increase the magnification range. A Barlow lens with a magnification of less than 1.0 reduces magnification and increases the working distance, while a Barlow lens with a magnification greater than 1.0 increases the magnification and reduces the working distance. High-eyepoint eyepieces ease viewing for users who wear glasses, and dioptric adjustment accommodates individual eye-strength differences. A stereo microscope, sometimes called an inspection or dissection microscope, has low magnification and a long working distance that enables users to manipulate the object being inspected.

The removable 80-bulb LED ring light provides bright, cool light for working with temperature-sensitive or live specimens. The ring light provides shadow-free illumination, and a rheostat controls the amount of light emanating from the lamp. Power and adjustment controls are located on the light head. The light has a 100,000-hour life span and a 90V-265V variable power supply. The microscope has a double-arm boom stand that enables users to position the microscope head on all three axes (X, Y, and Z). Bilateral focus eases use for left- and right-handed users. The stand has 20" double arms, and a 30" overall length. The pillar is 17" and the focus rack has a 3" diameter. The solid cast-steel base is 2 x 8-1/4 x 10-1/4 inches (H x W x D, where H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back).

Microscopes are instruments used to enhance the resolution of an object or image. Types include compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying magnification abilities. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution. Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also utilize LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries.

United Scope manufactures microscopy equipment and accessories under the brand name AmScope. The company, founded in 1996, is headquartered in Irvine, CA.

This thing is awsome. I had to slightly modify the led ring to fit over the Barlow lense but I’m good. This has to be the heaviest thing in my shop besides my air compressor and welders. Lack of any directions was a little disconcerting but easy to figure out. Highly recommended

I unboxed it this afternoon, assembled it and was using within 30 minutes. I should have purchased one of these years ago. Solid construction, excellent workmanship.

I wasn't expecting an awful lot from the Chinese-made optics of this unit, but I was pleasantly surprised. It works great with a very clear view, very little aberration of any kind. The only problem is that it has a small exit pupil so you have to hold your head and eyes very still so as not to lose the image. I think that's a common issue with these devices and not actually a fault. It also has quite good build quality. I think the base plate is the heaviest object I've ever encountered that wasn't designed for weight-lifting.

This was a stretch for my budget; but I know that i will be glad years from now that I went for the quality. The entire assembly is well built and functions flawlessly. The optical quality is as good as I expected. I considered buying the trinocular version. I decided against that because of some comments about the camera quality and the fact that it was set up for a proprietary camera. I would only consider such a scope if I could choose a camera from other sources.

I have a one man computer repair business. I also repair phones and tablets. I've purchased some things to make my job easier. For soldering I bought a rework station and also a separate soldering iron. For small items I used either a round 8" lighted magnifying glass or lighted seamstress glasses. But they aren't good enough for soldering some items, such as some ribbon cables as on the iPod Touch 5th Generation A1509. There are a bunch of soldering points right next to each other and I couldn't do the work with my equipment. I had turned down some jobs because of this. I finally decided to bite the bullet and spend the money. Now, I wish I had done it a long time ago. This is very heavy. The base alone probably weighs 20 or 30 pounds. That keeps the whole assembly from tipping over. There is practically no angle you can't get. Up down, left right etc. It comes with a .5x and a 2x barlow lens. I put the .5x lens on and looked at what will be my first soldering job with this microscope and I was amazed at how large and clear it looked. No way could I ever achieve this with my other equipment. This will make soldering so much easier. Since the .5x lens did that, I decided to try the 2x lens. WOW! It was extremely large. But I can't use the 2x lens for my needs. The 2x lens will be great for someone who needs to do something other than soldering. With the 2x lens attached, you need to put your specimen or whatever right up next to the lens. That's no good for soldering. For me, the 2x lens would be for playing around looking at bugs or something, but the .5x lens will be great for soldering. The eye pieces also adjust. You can move them farther apart or closer together depending on how near or far apart your eyes are. You can twist each eyepiece individually. Most people don't have 20-20 vision and each eye is different. With this, you close one eye and twist the eyepiece till your specimen is in focus, then close that eye and do the same with the other eyepiece to get both perfectly focused for your vision. You only need to do this once. I could go on and on, but I don't want to write a book. Suffice it to say, this microscope is more than worth the money. As I said previously...I wish I had bought this a long time ago.

Excellent product but be warned. The item came missing many of the small screws required for assembly. Luckily I happened to have most of them on hand and it did not cause too many problems.
