I just wanted to read in business cards and create a .jpeg files. No OCR just read in one card after another and create a .jpeg in a chosen directory. To read in a card is a multi-step process. You push a button on the unit, a screen pops up, you select the twain application, and that app is suppose to read the card. You have to repeat these steps for every read. The app they give you, does NOT give you the choice of directory, it does NOT crop the image, even though there is check box for cropping. At the suggestion of another reviewer I downloaded NAPS2, which does crop and allows an output directory to be specified. BTW it does not automatically work with ACDSee. You can chose to launch ACDSee from the pop up window but it doesn't work.

Problems installing ranging from software, Java, and Java conflicts. No rhyme or reason for failures but it is unfortunately regular.Works fine once it is installed.

This scanner works well with all cards, embossed or plain. The issue is that you NEED to purchase the full version of the software if you want to OCR those pesky business cards. The "lite" version will only let you scan 10 before stopping. I figured at the price they are selling this that the full version would be included. Lesson learned.Would really be nice if this was included in the description.

Like the scanner, like the size, wish the one-button scan would work without the pad software.Note: instruction in the box are simple, quick, and not accurate. Tells you where to go and get the driver. Doesn't tell you you need to have the scanner plugged in WHILE you install the driver. (which is different from most printers) BUT, most importantly, doesn't tell you that you cannot use it with Windows Scan built in software with Win10. It makes noises like it wants to scan your card, but doesn't actually draw it through. Called the helpful support, an they don't "recommend" using Windows Scan. Instead, they tell you to download their AmbirScan software in addition. Once I did that, it drew the card through and scanned. Minor hurdle to jump, should have been printed on the included Setup card.Further, while it states it is shipped "calibrated", the package also includes a calibration card for when the calibration fails. So like other scanners, this one also requires occasional calibration too. If it lasts, I'll be happy and won't need to revisit this review.

I bought this scanner to use it for business cards and receipts. It was not the cheapest, but was getting fairly good reviews elsewhere as a reliable piece of equipment. When I received it it had a nice heavy rugged feel. I placed it on a table and immediately realized that it wobbled. That's right, it wasn't straight... It's rubber feet didn't touch the table evenly, and every time I touched it it would wobble back and forth. To have something that cost me 150$ being incapable of sitting straight on my desk bothered me enough that I disassembled it and fixed it. The metal weight inside (bottom plate) required some adjustments, but now it is fine,Now that I could use it without my OCD alter ego being repulsed, I installed the drivers and Ambirscan light. However, I quickly uninstalled Ambirscan, as it can not recognize text from a business card or do anything particularly useful. The full version of Ambirscan ($100) has more features, but as far as I can understand, this version does not support OCR either.I ended up installing Abbyy Business Card Reader (30$) which works very well with the unit. For scanning receipts or other documents I found the open source NAPS2 was excellent.Good:- It seems to be a nicely built little scanner.- The TWAIN drivers are very good, and will allow this scanner to work with just about anything.- Nice GUI control panel for the twain drivers, allowing plenty of configuration options.- Allows for continuous feeding, will wait for the next card/receipt. Great time saver.Bad:- When I received it it wouldn't sit straight, the hole unit was skewed. Are you kidding me?? This is just poor workmanship.- The software is useless. Get something proper.- The feeder mechanism slips more than I expected, and I some times have to pull the receipts through.I'm feeling generous today, so I will give it four stars.
