Have been getting into more serious mountain biking, so I wanted a full face helmet to match. I could use one of my motorcross helmets, but those are pretty heavy, and don't breath well at all. Thankfully, this thing is much lighter, breathes well, and works great! It also looks sylish as all get up, and the color on it definitely is a standout. It fits nicely on my head, although note that they seem to run a bit small, so if you have a concern your head might be too big, you may have to look elsewhere. Having MIPS certification is also a huge plus; gotta take care of your noggin! Definitely love wearing this thing when I go riding!

I wanted a budget‑friendly alternative to the big names, and Alpina’s Pikes MIPS looked promising: ASTM‑certified shell, MIPS liner, double‑D ring strap, break‑away peak, and ~800 g claimed weight in M (about 100‑150 g heavier than comparable Fox/Smith lids).WHAT I LIKEDBuild quality & safety featuresThe shell feels stout, and the removable chin‑bar/face‑guard is well‑finished. Having MIPS and an ASTM downhill rating at this price is legit peace of mind.Face‑guard designLarge openings around the mouth make breathing easy and let you drink from a bottle without removing the lid!Value brandAlpina is a long‑standing German helmet maker more common in Europe; quality matches the asking price, even if the logo isn’t as flashy as Fox or Troy Lee.WHERE IT MISSED THE MARKRuns small / very snugI wear a large trail helmet (Fox and Smith) but the L/60‑61 cm Pikes squeezed hard enough to make me light‑headed. My teenage son (pictured)—also a trail‑helmet large—fit it perfectly, so I’d recommend sizing up to XL if you’re near the top of Alpina’s size chart. The cheek pads aren’t swappable (that I could tell), so you can’t fine‑tune the fit like you can on higher‑end DH lids.Ventilation is just OKFewer vents and thicker EPS make it noticeably warmer on climbs than a Fox Proframe or Smith Mainline. You’ll feel the heat on big pedal days.Fiddly double‑D strap + clipA DD‑ring is bomber once fastened, but threading it every time—then snapping the extra keeper—gets old when you’re taking the helmet on/off for trail chats or photo stops.Bulk & weightIt’s about a quarter‑pound heavier than the competition and looks a bit bulbous in photos. Not a deal‑breaker, but worth noting if you’re weight‑conscious.BOTTOM LINEIf pure protection per dollar is your priority and the fit works for you (or you’re buying for a younger rider with a narrower head), the Alpina Pikes MIPS is a capable full‑face. For my own noggin, though, the tight fit, warmer feel, and extra grams mean I’ll stick with a Fox or Smith—even if they cost a bit more. Size carefully and know what trade‑offs you’re making.

Well I ordered this Alpina Pikes MIPS cycling helmet with fairly high expectations given the price. And I haven't been let down in the least! Unfortunately I don't have enough time on my hands to be able to ride as much as I want. But when I do I'm not shy about taking a somewhat thrilling ride. Safety is very important to me as it should be for everyone.First of all the helmet looks great and stylish. When I felt the weight of the box I didn't see how a helmet could be in there. The claim in the Amazon description that it is lightweight is very true. The vents have really helped circulate air which is especially nice now that it's turning warm here in the south. I sure hope that I don't have to need all of the safety features of the helmet but it's sure nice to know that they are there. The MIPS reduces the impact and chance of injury in case of a wreck! I can easily highly recommend this helmet to all cyclists, and it's more than a great value!!!

This helmet is awesome. It feels really well made, has MIPS and is also super lightweight while being approved for DH riding. It has a good field of vision and is very open on the front for airflow. I’ve been riding in it exclusively since I got it from freezing temps to high 70’s and have been comfortable the whole time. Goggles fit well and stay out. Earbuds are not impossible to get in either if you’re into that sort of thing. All in all I think this helmet is well worth it!

I like this full-face helmet from Alpina because it gives me full protection and I barely notice I'm wearing it! It’s that light!I do some mountain biking , some of it downhill. I can reach speeds upward of 30mph, over some very tough terrain.I feel much more confident about the protection a full face helmet offers.I’ll also use it riding my E-Bike as well as my stand up scooter. You can never be too careful! The large vent openings assure good airflow to help keep your head cool. The odor inhibiting padding is very comfortable and the adjustable cheek pads keep the helmet secure, preventing any side-to-side movement. I like that! The DD fastener on the strap gives a secure hold , ensuring the helmet stays put. This helmet is designed with the MIPS system. ( Multi Directional Impact Protection System) with an ASTM certification. This system ensures maximum safety and rotational impact reduction in the event of a fall. The face opening is generous, easily accommodating glasses or goggles. This helmet stays on my bicycle seat so I never need to look for it. I always wear a helmet. This is a Premium helmet with premium features and fit.It would make an excellent gift for any Mountain biker. You know you’re sending a quality gift with this helmet.I chose the smoke gray matte finish in size Large. I think this color is more noticeable and stays cooler in the bright sunlight.I give this helmet a big 2 thumbs up for its lightweight, the MIPS System and the full-face protection it offers.
