I cut 15 interior doors with three sets of hinges each. For you homeschoolers, that's 45 hinges. The hinge jig is made of plastic and I figure the system is through half of its working life. I charge $300 a door replacement, so it's a good value for the money.

If you ever need to install or replace a door hinge, this jig is a total game-changer! It worked great for its intended purpose, making it super easy to cut precise hinge mortises without the hassle of chiseling by hand. The adjustable design fits hinge lengths from 3 to 5 inches and thicknesses from 1/4 to 5/8 inches, so it works with most standard hinges. Plus, it has removable plastic inserts that let you switch between square and rounded hinge corners, which is really convenient.One of the standout features is the built-in depth gauge, which helps set the correct cutting depth for the included router bit—no guesswork needed. It also comes with a self-centering hinge bit, so your screw holes are always perfectly aligned. The kit even includes a double-ended screwdriver bit, which is a nice bonus. Another small but useful detail is the silicone non-slip pads on both sides, which help keep the template securely in place while you work.Overall, this is one of those tools you don’t realize how much you need until you have it. This is certainly an affordable hinge jig and it does its job pretty well at being adjustable for length but it is lacking some other adjustments. You can't adjust how far over the door the hinge is going to cut out. It does allow you to adjust for the thickness of the door (based on the single thumb screw on the side) this isn't perfect though as it has some wobble, especially if your door have any routing on the edges causing it to not sit perfectly. I would recommend tracing your hinge first then putting the tool on to see how well it will align with what you expect.The picture is odd as it shows a drill instead of a router being used, which would be fairly worthless for a depth gauge. You need a router whos base will float on top of the template. As with any bearing router bit like this you need to make sure the router stays flush against the template to avoid digging into the door or template itself.Mine only had one corner but the picture seems to imply there should be two. The pictures show it should be able to do square, 1/4 round, and 5/8 round corner hinges but the attached corners are for 5/8 only and the 1/4 I guess would just be no corner insert then manually doing truly square after. If there is only one included corner than you need to be very careful with the router. Just going over the unprotected corner accidentally in movement will route it out.The self centering drill bit works well you put your hinge in the routed area then can use it to drill where the holes are without worrying about damaging the hinge. I will say one could just as easily mark the holes and drill traditionally but its a nice addition. It does hold the router bit but it would have been great if it could hold all 3.So if you only need to do a few hinges or repairs (I used to extend some existing hinges to reposition) its certainly better than nothing and if used carefully can do a pretty good job on standard doors.It is pretty close to 4 stars but just a few too many nags to go that far.

Comes just as pictured! Definitely came in handy when installing my front door!!! Works on most 4-9 6-9 16 inch in swing jambs!

I really like how this door hinge jig simplifies the installation process. It fits different hinge sizes, which is super handy for various projects. It made my DIY task much smoother and quicker!
