Extenders like these are useful in prolonging the wearability of pants that no longer fit. These extenders clip on the metal clamps on the existing waistband hooks of a pair of trousers. There are three hook positions for adjustment as needed, each exposing a gap at the center of the waistband that can be largely concealed with a thick belt; but when using the widest setting it might be difficult to secure the zipper fly. Yet these extenders do work although I prefer the simplicity of the button hook variety. Availability in a soft, neutral color rather than black, would have been welcome.

I'm not experienced with these, so while it seemed like these would only work with hook/eye closure pants, it said it would work with buttons, too, and that sounded nice. Spoiler alert, of course it didn't work with buttons. Maybe with a very different button closure style than I have in my collection?I tried these first on a pair of Old Navy trousers, and the hook was too big to fit in the eye on those pants. (See image with extender above and pants below). I tried them on an old pair of Merona pants from Target, and those were bigger hooks and these fit the pant, but using one hook didn't work well with the double closure on the pant. I even tried it using both extenders at once to give it the maximum shot at functionality, and it was super awkward and felt like they'd likely fall off if I actually tried to wear them that way. Plus, the top extender stuck up above the waistline of the pants. The extension of the waistline was also minimal.I'm giving two stars and not one because these are as pictured, well-made and seem sturdy. They seem like they'd work on the exact right style of pant, which would be a single hook closure, with a larger size hook. I couldn't find a pant in my wardrobe that fit that category, as they all had double hook closures, and most of them used smaller hook sizes than this also (these hooks were also too big for my Express brand trousers).
