I live in a small 2-bedroom apartment, and total bicycle weight matters for hauling the bike in & out. This stem is heavy. If total weight is not your concern, it is overbuilt and very safe/durable.

The machine finishing is far from perfect but it seems well made and looks good on my old Peugeot.

The classic & vintage bike world has needed an affordable, classic stem like this for YEARS, and I am delighted to see this stem on the market.Yes, it may not be as drop-dead beautiful as the steel Velo-Orange Grand Cru, it is also MUCH more affordable, completely within the lines of what you'd pay for something similar in the 1970's, and that's a good thing.This is an aluminum stem, and probably a lot safer and stronger than the old stuff, with a solid cap at the back unlike most of the AVAs and PIVOs of the time. Handlebar clamp is beefy and doesn't look like it'll break anytime soon - unlike said AVA stems of the past. Hardware is modern with Allen heads, but they're beautifully integrated and don't look out of place.While the polishing could be slightly better, it's more or less exactly what you'd find back in the 1970's, if not better. The surface is not clear anodized, so it is super simple to take a polishing stick and rotary buffer to bring the bare aluminum out a gorgeous shine.Unfortunately, those looking to use this very French looking stem on French bikes will have to do their own modifications to turn the quill down to 22.0mm and shim the clamp. These (apparently) only come 22.2/25.4, though that's usually the norm for every bike that's not French, so no real complaints there - it's more than satisfactory for classic English and Italian road bikes, and would look absolutely perfect on something like a Schwinn Paramount as well.Length is ~85mm CTC, which is a pretty good middle-of-the-road length if your frame is sized well.

Hey the vintage look for less. Decent stand in for a retro bike upgrade. Closed back design has modern allen bolts. Also much more shiny than many early cast stems from decades ago. But I did polish mine even more, so it doesn't come quite as shiny as shown in the photo. The stem is nice and long too, this allows you to raise your bars high- unlike the short vintage stems.
