Bolamp Updated version Umbrella SunshadeThis is a pretty interesting idea and works pretty well for me in practice. So it's a little bit like opening an umbrella inside of a car lol. The best advice I can give is to try and make sure you know where the slit for the rear view mirror is before you fully open it. This will make putting it up that much quicker. The bolamp updated umbrella shade IS much more convenient than my traditional folding sun shade, it easily covers most the entire windshield (I have the universal one 56x31", my SUV windshield measures 53" x 32") . I still need to fold both sun visors on my vehicle down to pin it in place ensuring no sun comes in but that's pretty much all of them. The umbrella skeleton is a little shorter than the fabric by design so it can flop open slightly on the side so the sun can peek through, if anything at all.Since I've never owned the original version of the Bolamp umbrella sunshade I'm not able to talk about how it has improved.I'm pretty happy with the performance and convenience of it though. The umbrella handle has an accordion goose neck so you can bend the handle to put more pressure of the shade up against your windshield. When you're done it folds up, wrap it shut with the velcro and slide into umbrella pouch.

I have a similar shade from couple years ago and it's falling apart, and the little metal arms are popping out. So I got this due to the claims of it being heavier duty. And I can safely say that's true, the arms are solidly linked to the material so I don't expect them to ever pop out. Each arm has a spring-like connector near the end so the ends can bend any direction to help fit into the windshield.Upon opening it up, it has a distinct concave shape towards the windshield side. It fits my windshield well, and the arm just hangs in midair without needing to bend it to anchor the unit. I like the option of being able to bend the arm to help prop up up in the windshield, but it's not necessary with how it fits in my car.It covers the entire windshield. The reflective part sticks out and keeps the sun rays from entering the car and heating it up even more. My car stays much cooler when I use this, as opposed to not using it. I don't have to worry about a hot steering wheel, hot seat, or needing to leave doors open to exhaust the hot air before entering the car.

About four years back, I started switching out the awkward sunshades for umbrella shades. Living in Florida, a shade is really something you should have, especially if you park in direct sunlight everyday (like when I'm at work). The wear and tear on your dashboard as well as the heat in the cabin, a shade can make a big difference. Now, I've quickly learned, not all umbrella shades are the same. What I like about this one:* The skeleton has a firm feel. Some are floppy, this is more like a quality umbrella.* The stitching is good. I've had other brands falling apart right out of the bag, this model seems to have good tight stitching.* Available in multiple sizes. Not every windshield is the same. Measure your windshield and get the closest size (round up, not down).Since it is a heavier duty shade, it won't compress as much as other umbrellas, but you're giving up that compression for more sun blocking. Even so, I still have plenty of room in my glove box for it and other things, and that's key: yes, might be a little "fluffier" when folded, but still way more convenient than other methods. It does have a sleeve to store it in. I can see that useful in a less sunny climate. Here, I'm going to be using it daily so I tend not to use the sleeve. That said, for sleeves, it is properly sized (many are too small), so you don't have to really fight to put it in. All umbrellas are a little awkward for their sleeves, because all fold up on the outer edges. But this sleeve doesn't make it harder, which is nice.Overall, happy with this shade, and glad to have something aiding me on that first part of my commute home (and in honesty, my car can be remotely cooled -- but even so, it's that initial 200-degree steering wheel that this saves me from!)
