We have rural property in a high-wildfire risk area, where we also experience power outages fairly often. Solar box oven cooking has been a great tool that we’ve used many years for slow cooking. However, I still missed the option of an off-grid option for faster, hotter cooking. I saw an ad for Rocket Stoves and looked into it further. This particular Rocket Stove was a good choice for us -- big enough to provide a cooking surface comparable to a stove-top burner, but still small enough to store and move easily. It captures the best qualities of both an efficient woodburning stove and a BBQ. As long as a clean, hot fire is maintained, there is very little (almost no) smoke. Pushing any remaining wood down to the burn cup once the cooking session is over results in only a tiny bit of residual ash.It is fairly easy to get a fire started, if you have experience with fireplaces or woodstoves. We have a variety of wood types from the pruning that we do on our 18 acres. With practice, you can figure out what size and type of wood achieves the desired temperatures. For us, it is best as a two-person operation -- one to tend the fire (which requires frequent attention) and the other to concentrate on the cooking.Because of our wildfire risk, we are very careful about setting the stove up. We use a large gravel parking area, well away from flammable vegetation. We keep a bucket of water and a fire extinguisher nearby. We even fashioned a spark arrester that we use if there are still coals present after we remove the griddle. So far, we haven’t had the slightest scare because the fire is well-contained and only tiny bits of ash have escaped so far. With practice, we are learning how to best use the options for cooking. I make homemade sourdough English muffins (which I’ve re-named “Rocket Muffins”) on the griddle. Another reviewer’s suggestion to use an infrared thermometer (I’m using the Etekcity Infrared Thermometer) is greatly appreciated. It helps with the learning curve of how to match the fire intensity to your cooking needs. The griddle is not non-stick enough for eggs, so I’ll be using a pan. For rapid heating of water, we use the criss-cross support, which delivers higher temperatures directly from the flames.Cookware does get quite a bit of soot on the bottom, so we have dedicated some old, heavy aluminum cookware that had fallen into disuse after we switched to induction cooking.Overall, I am thrilled with this purchase. It seems well-designed, was packaged extremely carefully on delivery and is fun and effective to use. Since we have an unlimited amount of vegetation that needs constant pruning for fire safety, and we are afraid to do an open burn pile on our property, I plan to use the Rocket Stove often (with or without power outages) so that we can reduce our brush piles and pruning “one twig at a time.” If power outages become increasingly frequent, as we anticipate, this Rocket Stove is a great addition to complement the solar cookers.

I've used this rocket stove from STANBROIL extensively at this point. I can safely say it's a sufficiently durable construction with an incline wood inlet that altogether did everything we needed it to with satisfaction, and safely withstood high heat and harsh outdoor conditions on an almost two-week camping trip with myself and my pals. The cooking grate, griddle, and drip pan attachments were also all up to the challenge, and provided versatility for grilling, searing, and cooking. Wood burned efficiently, with minimal smoke and easy cleanup. 110% this is a 5 star apparatus overall.

I'm not sure why the listing shows two different versions of this rocket stove. I received the one that does not have the option to adjust the height of the stove. Just straight legs at are inserted in slots and held on by wing nuts. A minor issue but definitely confusing advertising. That being said, I love this little stove! It was so easy to set up. It is a nice heavy cast iron. And I do mean heavy! It was easy to ignite the fire in the tilted feed and to keep it going.I have used the griddle, the grate and the pot holder. I will admit that the griddle is my favourite. It is thick and heavy, perfect for cooking on! I made pancakes and bacon and it took no time at all to cook. The nice thing about cast iron is that it keeps an even heat if you know how to use it properly. Don't start with a monster fire. Break it in gently with small fires that aren't too terribly hot. This rocket stove is nicely sealed which makes it easier to regulate the fire.To be honest, I would have preferred the adjustable height legs but I am so happy with this stove! It really is worth the money! Two thumbs up from me!
