I put this in service with my localized Motorola repeater and expected 15-20 mile service (15 watt output). Well, it doesn’t do 15-20 miles. It does 50+ miles! Very impressed! About to buy another for a 2nd repeater.

I purchased Hyshikra GMRS base antenna for my daughter and her family to be able to talk 10 miles from their house to mine. We both have this base antenna and use 5 watt GMRS walkie talkies. The antennas are mounted about 25 feet above the ground and the terrain has some hills up to 150 feet high and a lot of thick forest in that 10 mile distance. We get good reception and will use the radios when cell phone towers fail as has happened in the past during earthquakes.

I finally got around to installing the antenna at my property. It looks and works great on my GMRS radio. Assembly was easy and it came with everything needed for the install.

This antenna was easy to set up, however I'm not impressed with the SWR 1.9 to 1.0 up to 2.6 to 1. Not impressed at all. This antenna is not tunable

SWR ranges from 1.00 to 1.08 across all GMRS channels.Excellent reports with the ground plane just above my roof line of my house. My most distant contact at 4.68 watts was over 10 miles away. This is with massive geographical obstructions. I was unable to talk to this particular contact on my 17” GMRS base antenna. This is a massive improvement.I was able to make clear contact on simplex 24 air miles at 22.5 watts. That’s with many points of terrible obstruction. I live in the greater pittsburgh area with lots of hills and other obstructions. To be more specific, I’m at a lower elevation area (Churchill, PA) and having zero issue reaching Johnstown, PA (50 air miles) and Butler,Pa (24 air miles) those were made at full power (22.5 watts on the digital meter). From me to Johnstown is twice the distance, but much flatter terrain. From me to Butler is a mess of peaks and valleys, so that’s the one I’m really impressed with. This antenna will blow away the much shorter 17” base GMRS antennae on the market. My results come from testing and talking to 20+ contacts. Some through a local repeater and others on simplex. This antenna is worth the price.

This antenna was working perfectly 1.2 swr until it rained for four days straight. The upper element ( that isn’t serviceable) got water in it somehow and swr went to 2.8. They wrapped styrofoam around the loads and when the styrofoam got wet it must’ve shorted. Trouble shooting was done by installing a dummy load at every connection point up my coax and checking swr until I got to the antenna, to eliminate any bad connections as the culprit. I removed the styrofoam from the elements but need to tune this antenna now. The upper element can be disassembled by heating the brass connector with a heat gun till the glue breaks down. I still cannot figure out how water go into the upper element.

This antenna is absolutely perfectly tuned for the 22 GMRS channels. I am pleasantly surprised that the entire spectrum of GMRS frequencies can give me less than 1.05 SWR, most are at a perfect 1.00 reading. The repeater channels for GMRS are still within an acceptable range of about 1.48 SWR. No need to even look at another antenna for a base setup. Worth every penny, I only need to find out if it will work as a local repeater and will it have the longevity, hopefully many years.Update: I changed my coaxial cabling and now even the repeater channels are under 1.16SWR as well
